Infor, the industry cloud company, today announced that MedStar Mobile Healthcare has selected the Infor Cloverleaf Integration Suite to optimize their Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). MedStar is the trade name of the Area Metropolitan Ambulance Authority (AMAA), which services the City of Fort Worth and 14 other cities in the North Texas area. MedStar’s adoption of Infor Cloverleaf will help break new ground in the way that information is exchanged between out of hospital providers and hospitals. The solution helps enable information sharing in a faster, more efficient manner with fewer errors to help emergency physicians quickly assess and treat patients.
MedStar has opted to deploy Infor Cloverleaf in a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, allowing the organization to utilize the solution without the need for dedicated IT resources. By utilizing Infor Cloverleaf in a cloud-environment, MedStar and Infor are paving new ground with visibility, tracking and transfer of patient records. The solution will allow out of hospital personnel to generate an electronic patient care record (ePCR) in an XML format that Infor Cloverleaf will then convert into a health level-7 format and deliver to the hospital’s Electronic Medical Record, (EMR). This allows physicians to quickly access the pertinent medical information of arriving patients, as well as current prescriptions, allergies or other essential information. A tracking number within the patient ePCR allows MedStar to track each individual outcome, assisting them with best practices and training. It is expected that the out of hospital documentation process will be reduced as repeat information can be quickly propagated from the system.
“The evolution of the nation’s healthcare system to focus on patient outcomes across the healthcare continuum has fostered a great deal of attention on both traditional EMS and the transformation to EMS-based MIH services. With Infor Cloverleaf, we are now able to quickly and accurately convey patient information to and from physicians and other care providers as we all coordinate care for our patients, in and out of the hospital. This not only creates the potential for boosting the efficiency of the medical treatment but can also help save lives,” said Doug Hooten, executive director of MedStar. “Infor truly shares our vision for providing efficient, reliable yet cost-effective emergency medical services to the community.”
Infor Cloverleaf is a leading clinical integration and information exchange solution that establishes a viable system for healthcare organizations to securely share and manage patient data. Infor Cloverleaf may be deployed in an on-premise model or as a Cloud-based SaaS solution, while maintaining compliance with the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards applicable to protection of protected health information. The Infor Cloverleaf adoption is the first Infor solution to be selected by MedStar. MedStar had selected Infor Cloverleaf thanks in part to Infor’s vast background and reputation as a provider of integration solutions to the healthcare industry.
Infor and MedStar have partnered with ImageTrend, the software company, which provides the ePCR system, to further solidify the transfer of data. The integration of ePCR data with EMR data using Infor Cloverleaf advances the important long-term objective of achieving better visibility into patient outcomes in the post-acute setting. The integrated information will allow MedStar to better manage a patient’s health in the critical 30-day period after discharge from the hospital by enabling services such as ensuring that the patient follows the orders prescribed by the physician, and has access to medications and the physician in the prescribed timeframes. Such outcome-based information can then be transferred back through the system to help establish best practices and serve as a medical training tool.
“Timing and accuracy are two major issues that face EMS and MIH providers within the healthcare industry, by providing them with more intuitive tools, we can help alleviate the severity of these challenges. The Infor Cloverleaf solution provides medical professionals with a tool to facilitate the transfer of information with greater ease than ever before,” said Kevin Curry, senior vice president, Infor Healthcare & Public Sector. “Infor is committed to developing low-cost solutions that better facilitate way medical professionals serve their communities.”
