Government facilities, like jails and detention centers, are making the switch to electronic health records alongside healthcare providers. Electronic records have been shown to improve the safety of inmates and the quality of care provided in these facilities.
Benefits of EHR adoption
State and federal correctional facilities are implementing EHR software to better their care of inmates and detainees. According to EHRIntelligence, more than 2 million adults are currently held in facilities across the country, and the adoption of EHRs will improve their quality of life.
“Without an EHR, it is extremely difficult to pull together sufficient details to detect vulnerability among patients who are subject to abuse or neglect, or to identify those with special needs and to act in a manner to quickly protect them,” wrote the authors of a study published in the Health and Human Rights Journal.
