Winston-Salem, NC, April 27, 2015 – Three Novant Health trustees were awarded the North Carolina Hospital Association Trustee Service Award on April 25 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The recipients are John (Jack) M. Carpenter, chairman of the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center board of trustees; Joseph Ely, chairman of the Novant Health Triad Region board of trustees; and Anthony Fox, a member of the Novant Health Southern Piedmont Region board of trustees and the chairman of the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center board’s nominating committee. There were nine board members honored from across the state.The North Carolina Hospital Association is a statewide trade association representing hospitals and health systems. The association promotes improved delivery of quality and affordable healthcare in North Carolina through leadership, advocacy, information and education. The Trustee Service Award recognizes trustees who have shown outstanding leadership and dedication to their hospitals or hospital systems and to the communities they serve.

Carpenter has served on the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center board of trustees since 2006 and has been chairman since 2011. He joined the board of trustees the same year Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply, North Carolina, joined Novant Health. Carpenter is a retired executive of Lucent Technologies.
Ely has served on the Novant Health board for eight years. He retired as executive vice president and Southeast region manager from Aon Hewitt, a global leader in human resource solutions.
Fox has served on the Novant Health Southern Piedmont Region board of trustees since 2006. In 2014, he was the board chairman. Fox is a partner with Parker Poe, a business law firm, in Charlotte.
