Lab Management Services

Cardiac Partners

In 1983 my father, John F. Carroll, M.D. and other local cardiologists were facing a challenge.  Rapid adoption of Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty was making the cath lab schedule unwieldy.  The hospital could not build another procedure room for three years due to the requirements surrounding Arizona’s Certificate of Need (“CON”) laws. I was a third year law student, and investigated the legal hurdles.  As it turned out, the local cardiologists could develop and build their own “private physicians clinic” which was exempt from the CON requirements.  Thus began my first project, the Heart Institute of Tucson.

I have developed and operated over 20 Cath Labs in the Southwest region and have worked closely with many physicians, administrators and hospitals to create effective and efficient Cath Lab businesses.

After the Heart Institute of Tucson, the next project arose in Denver, Colorado.  My physician partner, Dennis J. Battock, M.D., and I needed a way to make sense of clinical and business activities in the Cath Lab.  The American College of Cardiology had not yet created the NCDR, so we created our own home-grown system. We used a DOS, Flat-File program to track approximately 40 data fields for each patient.  Since that time, CPLink has evolved and undergone many formats and changes.  Today the software uses SQL tables and is written in C# (pronounced C sharp).  It continues to evolve to fulfill client and industry needs.

Cardiac Partners is a privately owned family company. It began in Tucson with my father and me, and now includes my daughter Madison. Our goal is to continue to expand Cardiac Partners, but to retain the strengths of personal service and commitment to our customers.

Initial response to CPLink Cardiovascular Database System® has been enthusiastic. The flexibility and value of reports reflect 30 years of in the trenches experience. I am excited to make CPLink available to hospitals and their management teams.

Sincerely,

John Carroll
CEO, Cardiac Partners
