On March 31st I gave a presentation on MU audits and appeals for hospitals on a webinar hosted and moderated by HIMSS Media/Healthcare IT News. If you had a chance to attend the live event, I thank you for your time.
The presentation covered best practices to avoid an EHR incentive audit as well as lessons learned from hospitals that have experienced the pain brought on from an audit, most distressing of which is the real possibility of having to return every last penny of received Meaningful Use incentives for that year.
I also discussed taking a proactive approach by performing a mock audit. The audit process directed by CMS will continue through out each stage of meaningful use. An audit can take place up to 6 years after attestation, so if you’re a hospital attesting to Stage 2 you can still be audited for Stage 1.
You can listen and download the recording of this event on Healthcare IT News. Make sure you hit the ”download” button on the upper right to access the full recording. I address a fair number of questions in the Q&A portion of the event and have answered the remaining questions we didn’t get to on the event here.
If you are interested in learning more about how a mock audit can help mitigate potential audit risks and prepare your hospital for a timely and orderly response please contact me at jimtate@emradvocate.com. We provide a suite of services that mimic the audit process and includes a review of your organization’s Security Risk Assessment.
