Innovative Technological Advancements in Dentistry
Healthcare is something that every individual needs which means if there’s anyway it can be improved, it can only benefit those who need it most. Technology has been adopted significantly in recent years within the healthcare industry to help improve the quality of care. The better the technology for dentists, the easier their service can become.
We’ve already been introduced to some technological advancements within dentistry. For example, apps have been developed to let us know which teeth we’re brushing whilst we brush them in order to let us know which are being thoroughly cleaned and which aren’t. But these are the more minor innovations that have been introduced and it’s the innovation being made in dental offices that are making the real difference. Let’s take a look at some of them here.
Robot Assistants
Did you know that the first robot to perform a dental led procedure was in China in 2017? Although it was overseen by a human team, they had no interference with the surgery itself. It was able to insert two dental implants into a woman’s mouth without interaction from humans. This was a welcoming breakthrough considering there is a shortage of highly skilled dentists in China.
It seems as though we’re heading towards a robot-assisted world with many industries currently adopting this approach to better their services or products. Even if robots can’t be completely trusted with conducting full-blown procedures, they can still assist with the procedures.
Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence has come a long way since its birth and we’re seeing it become common practice amongst many homes. Examples such as SIri for Apple and Alexa’s in the home have now become a normality in our day to day lives. AI is now making movements in the dentistry industry too.
One way this is happening is by researchers looking into ways where AI could help with diagnosing dental problems, reading X-rays and scans to identify problems which can be easily rectified. This can easily save time and money on dentists who actively search through dental records. This can help dentists improve their care as they’ll be able to identify problems that they may not have previously.
Teeth Regrowing
In very extreme cases, patients tend to find themselves with teeth that are so damaged that they have to seek alternative dental treatments to restore the tooth. This tends to be through procedures such as dental implants or veneers. However, thanks to technology there is now a possibility that patients are able to regrow their natural tooth.
Technology could make it possible to stimulate deep cells in the root of teeth to inspire it to grow. The dental pulp of a tooth is where the tooth produces the bony tissue known as dentin which could be coaxed to grow via stimulation to fill spaces in the tooth that have been disturbed from decay treatment.
Dental offices are likely to benefit greatly from the tech upgrades that are on offer and it’s likely to streamline processes massively. It will make treatments more efficient and accessible for patients. Generally, dentists will benefit from having these resources available.
