Pearson announced a partnership with iCare.com, a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) systems provider, to deliver RealEHRPrep with iCare. This innovative documentation learning resource develops pre-licensure nursing students’ competency in preparation for clinical practice. Developed by healthcare information technology and learning experts, RealEHRPrep with iCare supports schools of nursing in meeting the Institute of Medicine’s recommended changes to healthcare curricula.
Combining Pearson’s online learning technology and content with iCare’s cutting-edge electronic health record system, students get the opportunity to develop and hone skills in an authentic EHR. Featuring activities that serve as a springboard to working with an EHR such as iCare, RealEHRPrep starts with simple scavenger-hunt type exercises and progresses to the documentation of complex cases and simulations. Pre-created case scenarios with corresponding medical records prepare students to observe, synthesize and analyze data in a clinical setting.
“This partnership between Pearson and iCare creates the best possible environment to prepare nursing students for success in the workforce and increase their employability. The modern technology of the iCare EHR coupled with its proven clinical workflows will expose students to the complex requirements they will encounter in actual clinical settings,” said Jim Riley, CEO of iCare. “Most important, students who train using RealEHRPrep with iCare will be ready for the future of healthcare.”
The Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health Act accelerated automation in healthcare. Nursing graduates need to know how to interact with EHR systems to ensure patient safety and quality care. RealEHRPrep with iCare’s solution meets the needs of core nursing courses fundamentals, medical-surgical, pharmacology, maternal-newborn, pediatrics, mental health as well as the skills lab, simulation lab and clinical.
“Today’s nursing students are under pressure to be ready for practice once they graduate and pass the licensure exam. Clinical time, however, is not always available, which means that offering realistic learning experiences in the lab and classroom are more important than ever,” said Julie Levin Alexander, vice president of Health Sciences, Higher Education, Pearson. “Pearson’s collaboration with iCare is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the educational experience for professors and their students who will be tomorrow’s nurses.”
