Orion Health Nails US Department of Defence Tech Deal

Orion Health

Orion Health has been appointed as the integration and interoperability partner as a member of the Leidos syndicate that has been awarded a major contract by the Department of Defence (DoD) in the United States.

The Leidos Partnership for Defence Health will provide an electronic health record (EHR) off-the-shelf solution, integration activities and deployment across the Military Health System.

The contract, known as the Defence Healthcare Management System Modernisation (DHMSM), is an initiative designed to modernise the military’s healthcare system, enabling patients and clinicians to capture and share health data more efficiently.

Across the Pacific, modernising the medical records of the millions of service members and their families has been gaining greater importance for the DoD.

As such, DHMSM will continue the DoD’s leadership in utilising the best healthcare technology in order to help improve medical outcomes and support the medical readiness of the U.S. military.

“Orion Health is proud to be part of the Leidos Partnership for Defence Health, the team that has been selected as the best value solution for the DHMSM contract,” says Paul Viskovich, North American President, Orion Health.

“Together, our qualified and experienced team is working with the Department of Defence to deliver a world class interoperable electronic health records solution for the United States armed forces, their families and beneficiaries.”

The Department of Defence has selected Orion Health’s Rhapsody Integration Engine, which is designed for rapid interoperability between healthcare IT systems, regardless of technology or standards.

According to Viskovich, Rhapsody will provide the required link between the DoD’s Cerner EHR system and the facilities that provide care to over 50 percent of military personnel.

Orion Health CEO, Ian McCrae believes this new contract is another example of the ever growing applications, of their versatile software solutions.

“Rhapsody has for a long time been a world class integration engine, recognised for its ease of use, flexibility and ability to support very large projects and implementations,” he adds.

“Our expert domain knowledge in integration is now opening up a number of new opportunities for us all around the world and this DoD contract is testament to that – we are very excited about the potential for this deal.”

McCrae says Rhapsody is used by thousands of organisations in the United States and around the world, including hospitals, Integrated Delivery Networks, software companies, public health agencies, health information exchanges (HIE), health insurance companies and financial clearinghouses.
