5 Ways to Improve to Your Healthcare Hiring Process

healthcare hiring process

Exclusive Article by Lindsey Patterson at EMRIndustry

Hiring is something that can take time and effort if it is not done properly. This ultimately wastes the company’s time and interviewee’s time. Once you have found someone who you want to employ the process can take longer if there is a lot of paperwork and training that needs to be done.

Luckily there are a lot of different ways to help make your hiring process quick and efficient. This does not mean that you have to sacrifice your thoroughness or stop hiring great employees. What it does mean is that your company may have to implement different systems and strategies that can feel a little weird at first.

Here are 5 things to consider to help your hiring process:

Know What You Want

You may have a great hiring process in place but it might not be a great fit for your company or your patients. If you are in a high stress healthcare profession such as emergency services you do not want trainees and future employees to be on the sideline filling out paperwork while they could be helping in an emergency situation.

Every hospital and private practice is going to be different. As a manager or someone who is over hiring you will have a good baseline of understanding of what you want. The key is to research and find what is available so you can find a perfect system for your needs.

Be Thorough

You can have a quick hiring process but you may find that your employees are not the best. It is important to remember that your employees are helping real people who may be in life-threatening situations. You will want a hiring process that is quick but very thorough. This can help you from hiring the wrong employees and lets you have the peace of mind that your patients are with the best employees that you hired.

Make Some Changes

After you have done some serious research and thought it is important that you look at the system that you have now. This will require you and your company to take an objective view at the system, even if you helped create and maintain it.

You may find that your system is good but it needs to have some major changes take place in order for it to run at its best. You may find that you need to completely start over and get a new system.

Streamlining and Efficiency

Once you have a system that works you may find that there are certain areas you can cut down and remove from your training. This does not mean that your training or hiring process has to be short and does not have to go over everything that is expected of your employees.

You may find that switching over to an online process is easier for the company and saves a lot of paper from being used. You may also find that an applicant tracking system helps with organization of the applications that have been submitted.

Patient Feedback

The healthcare industry is a patient centered place that is focused on the well being and health of each individual patient. If you are concerned about how your processes impact patients it is important to collect feedback from your patients.

There are different ways to get information from your patients. Incentives such as money, food or anything free is a great way to get patients to participate. If that is not feasible you can always offer discounts or coupons. Feedback can be given by taking a survey of some sort that is sent out by email or text message.

Hiring does not have to be an exhausting process that takes a long time and has to be stressful. There are a lot of different ways to improve your own company’s hiring process to make it better. What are some strategies your company uses that has helped the company?
