6 Fabulous Fall Family-Friendly Functions

Fall is such a wonderful time of year. The heat from the summer is gone but the bite of the winter chill hasn’t yet arrived. The leaves are beginning to change. Comfy sweaters are beginning to emerge from closets. Holiday candy is beginning to hit the shelves. There’s really no season quite like it. It’s a great time of the year to get outdoors with your family and create some new and lasting memories. If you find yourself looking for inspiration, here are six Fall activities that are perfect for families.

1) Baseball

The professional season may start winding down in the Fall, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Try taking in one of the last few home games of the local team with your family. If there’s not a pro or semi-pro team nearby, why not put on a game in your own backyard? Invite your friends and neighbors to join in to fill the teams and the crowds. Make sure you have all the right supplies, such as youth baseball gloves, balls, bats, and bases, and then let that first pitch fly.

2) Corn Mazes

With the summer harvest done, many farms open their doors to the public in the Fall. You’ll find plenty of family-friendly activities, from petting zoos to hayrides. But the best activity of all has to be a good corn maze. Grown in an actual cornfield, your family will have to find your way through the maze of stalks to the finish line. Don’t be afraid of a few wrong turns- it will only add to the sense of fun and adventure!

3) Camping

Fall is a great season to hit the trails or state parks and do some camping. You can find a huge variety of campsites- from full pioneer sites that require you to hike in with your own water and food and supplies, to those that come with electricity, bathrooms, and parking spots for cars or RVs. No matter if your family is the camping type or more of the glamping type, you’ll find plenty of bonding time around the campfire.

4) Halloween Fun

The spookiest season can also be the most fun. Look for Halloween festivals in your area. Some may offer incredibly scary haunted houses for the very brave, while others may have activities geared to a younger (or less brave) crowd. For kids, look for safe & fun trunk-or-treating events. For older kids, look for haunted houses or hayrides to get the adrenaline flowing. Just don’t forget to wear your costumes!

5) Apple Picking

With cooler weather comes apple harvesting season. Many orchards allow for “U-Pick” days and times, where your family can get a bag or basket and fill it with as many fresh-picked apples as you can carry. The bigger orchards may offer games or rides for kids, or even feature a farm store filled with all the produce and products any kitchen could want. You can even keep the family bonding going at home as you work together to turn all those apples into delicious pies, cakes, ciders, and more.

6) Holiday Lights

The end of the season is when all of the holiday lights start going up, and what a beautiful sight they are. There are many options for viewing lights. You can take a walk around your neighborhood, you can go on a driving tour of other neighborhoods, or you can even go big by visiting a local lantern festival or other light-based attraction. It’ll help keep the dark nights at bay and give your family plenty to smile about.

As you can see, Fall is full of family-friendly opportunities. There are lots of ways to get outdoors together and create amazing memories. Check out local sports teams, visit farms, get into the spooky spirit with Halloween events, and take in the gorgeous holiday lights that come with the end of the season. No matter what you and your family choose to do, may you make the most of this wonderful time of year.
