6 Team Building Exercises for Remote Work

Do you have a remote team and feel like no one knows each other? Consider how you can do some team-building with people who work in different places.

1. Collect Employee Photos

One of the easiest ways for your remote workers to get to know each other is for them to take photos. They could take and submit photos of their workspace, family, neighborhood, or whatever. You can even set up a theme and do this activity every month or week.
Whenever you do the exercise, you can release the photos. Employees can give more details about their photos. If they submit a photo without them in it, you can have other employees guess who took the picture. That can test their knowledge of their coworkers.

2. Develop a Quiz

Whether you want to take photos or not, you can quiz your employees on each other. Employees can submit fun facts about themselves, such as where they live, their college major, or their favorite food. During the quiz, you can have other employees guess who each fact applies to.
Of course, some employees may know certain coworkers better. However, this is a great way for new people to get to know who they work with. Veteran employees can also learn about the new people. And everyone may find that they share something in common with a coworker, and they can bond over that.

3. Play Kahoot

Perhaps you want to quiz the entire team and not use them for questions. You can set up a game using Kahoot, which is an online quiz program. It will give you a link that you can send to your remote workers, and they can all join the quiz at the same time.
The person who gets the correct answer the quickest gets the most points. Everyone can rack up points each round, and someone will end as the winner. You can use Kahoot to test people on their training materials or whatever you want. If you want, you can even offer prizes to the winners.

4. Do an Escape Room

Escape rooms seem like they have to be done in person, but there are virtual escape rooms that you and your team can do together. It’s a great option for virtual team building because people can work with each other to solve the various problems within the room.
You don’t have to worry about all being in the same place, so you can all sit in your offices or at home. It’s also useful if you have some people that work in person and others that don’t. Employees won’t have to feel left out if the office workers get to do an escape room.

5. Watch a Movie

Sometimes, you and your employees may just want to relax. Ask your employees what movies they want to watch and have them vote on the most popular submissions. Then, you can set up the movie on a computer, and your employees can watch it through Zoom.
The chat box in Zoom is a great place for employees to share their thoughts throughout the film. If they really like or dislike a scene, let them talk about it. At the end, you can all talk it out and listen to everyone’s opinions. While not everyone will love the movie, it’s an amazing way to relax after a stressful week.

6. Play Words With Friends

One of the best ongoing team-building activities is to play a game like Words With Friends. You can have people join the game, or you can partner two people up. Then, they can play a round of the game when they have time.
Members of each game can get creative and learn about their teammates in the process. Every month or so, you can reassign the teams. That way, people will always get to play with someone new.
Building a virtual team has a lot of challenges that you don’t have in an office. Fortunately, you can use different team-building activities with a remote team. Keep these ideas in mind next time you need some inspiration.
