6 Ways To Make Your Home’s Outdoor Space an Oasis

Whether you have a large or small backyard, you want it to be a place where you feel comfortable enough to relax on the weekends. From serene spaces where you can lean back with your favorite book to fun outdoor spaces that will keep every weekend barbecue going until late into the evening, these tips and tricks will create a yard you’ll never want to leave.

1. Add a Pool To Your Backyard

One of the best things you can do to create a backyard oasis you’ll love spending time in is to add a pool to it. Pool loan companies offer a wide variety of financing options that allow you to get exactly what you need. From elegant above-ground options surrounded by beautiful wooden decks to in-ground pools with gorgeous waterfall features, you are sure to find something that meets your goals and your budget.

2. Create Different Levels

If you have a small space, you can add more defined areas to the yard by creating different levels and using mixed materials. Each level can have its own distinct vibes, such as a shipping pallet of plants, a stone area for your patio furniture, and grassy areas with small ponds. The key with small spaces is to be creative and add spaces that provide visual interest without feeling overwhelming.

3. Build a Living Wall

While this tip is usually for indoor spaces, who’s to say you can’t build a living wall in your yard? They can even double as tall privacy fences. Create a lush garden with all of your favorite plants and flowers, focusing on those who do well outdoors, like plenty of sunlight, and can grow to either climb the wall or drape down it. The beautiful green space provides more oxygen, creates a unique ecosystem in your yard, and is a serene way to relax by your pool or read a book on your deck. If you’re into sustainability, you can even plant gorgeous herb plants that will help you spice up your kitchen.

4. Construct a Fire Pit

You probably want your backyard to be a place where you can relax with friends in the evening, not to mention one that you can enjoy during various types of weather. Adding a do-it-yourself firepit is an excellent way to create a conversation area that you can use even on chilly nights. Use brick or stone to build your pit and ensure it’s safe and can withstand the elements. Add some tiki lights and plenty of fire-safe seating for somewhere you can have a few drinks, build s’mores, and just enjoy your space.

5. Design Around a Focal Point

If you have a small space that you want to make more striking, create a single focal point for it. A strong design will draw the eye and make it less likely that visitors will notice the small size of the yard. Consider a single water feature surrounded by beautiful stonework or a gorgeous statue commissioned from a local artist. Once you have the focal point in place, you can add patio furniture and plants that match the overall theme.

6. Add a Recreational Area

You’ll want to spend more time outdoors if you have a fun place to do it. While a relaxing area is excellent for days where you just want to replenish your energy, you also need a place to work off some of that excess energy from time to time. Create a recreational space to do just that. Add games like lawn dominoes or cornhole, create a sandbox that you and your kids will both love, and add a playground for the kids. You might even consider an adult-sized swing to the playground area so that it’s fun and accessible for the entire family.

While DIY work can be a fun family project, remember that safety should come first. If you aren’t adept at construction work, will be digging near gas lines, or want to install electrical equipment, always work with professionals. This way, you can be sure the job is safe, complete, and done correctly.
