6 Ways To Stay Fit While Working a Desk Job

Working from a desk can seem like a lazy thing. But there are a few things you can do to help yourself stay fit throughout your day or week.

1. Get a Standing Desk

One of the best ways to stay fit if you work a desk job is to get a standing desk. Now, this may not be possible if you work out of the house, but if you work at home, you can buy yourself a taller table. If you do work at an office, you can get a standing desk converter to put on top of your desk.

Either way, getting something that will let you stand while you work can help you stay fit. You won’t have to sit all day, so you can use more of your energy. If you don’t want to stand all of the time, you can find a desk that goes up and down, so you can sit when you need to and stand when you want.

2. Use a Supportive Chair

Another thing that can help is to get a supportive, comfortable chair. While the chair may not help you stay fit, it can help promote good posture and help with your lower back. Then, you can use that posture to help when you do get to stand or when you do a workout.

A supportive chair or chair cushion can also help you feel better throughout the day. In that case, you may have more energy and motivation to go to the gym after you finish work. And if you go to the gym, you’ll be able to stay fit despite spending much of your day at a desk.

3. Make Time for Breaks

Throughout your workday, schedule in some short breaks. You can use that time to walk around the office to help you stay active. The walks don’t have to be long or far, so you can get away with walking around for a few minutes at a time.

If you do that a few times a day, that can add up. Then, you won’t have to make time to go to a gym after work, and you can still get plenty of exercise. Of course, you shouldn’t sacrifice your work for a physical exercise break. But it can be nice if you have some downtime between projects.

4. Do Some Stretches

Another option is to do some stretches at your desk. You can stretch your arms and legs, and you can couple that with some light therapy. Then, you’ll be able to stretch out your muscles and keep from getting a bunch of cramps.

Stretches are nice if you can’t get up and walk around. You can take a few seconds to do some stretches throughout the day. And you don’t need much space around your desk to stay fit and healthy.

5. Drink Plenty of Water

You should also focus on getting plenty of water throughout the day. Drinking water can help you keep your skin healthy, just like how red light therapy benefits you. Then, you may be more willing to take time after work to go to the gym or take a walk around the block.

This can be especially nice if you work in marketing and have some tight deadlines. You may not be able to do any exercise while you’re at work. But it’s easy enough to have some water by your desk to sip on as you work.

6. Eat Healthy Snacks

Along with drinking water, you should eat a healthy diet when you’re at work. Bring some snacks to keep in your desk for when you get hungry before or after lunch. You should also pack a healthy lunch to eat so that you don’t feel like you have to go out and get something bad for you.

A healthy diet can give you more energy than eating a bunch of junk. Like the point on drinking water, eating good foods may not directly help you stay fit. But it can give you the energy you need to get through a long day, and you may have energy left over to support a trip to the gym.

Whether you work in marketing or another industry, you may have a busy schedule. Keep these tips in mind to stay fit as you work from a desk.
