American Red Cross to Launch New Resuscitation Curriculum to Save More Lives

American Red Cross

A collaboration with HealthStream will provide innovative curriculum to Healthcare market

The American Red Cross has developed a new resuscitation curriculum to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve resuscitation outcomes. The Red Cross curriculum will be offered to healthcare organizations, nationwide, beginning in January of 2019 in HealthStream’s (NASDAQ: HSTM) marketplace and delivered through HealthStream’s industry leading platform.

The curriculum includes courses for Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. A Red Cross-issued certificate will be provided to healthcare professionals upon their successful completion of the curriculum. All of the offerings include a variety of new technology capabilities and are designed based on International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) recommendations.

Concurrently, the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, which includes a prestigious 50+ member panel of nationally-recognized medical, scientific, and academic experts, ensures that the Red Cross is at the vanguard of best science and best practice with regard to resuscitation.

“The American Red Cross strives to meet and exceed the ever-evolving needs and expectations of healthcare providers with our new, innovative resuscitation curriculum,” said David Markenson, MD, MBA, chair of the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, First Aid Task Force member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), and medical director at the New York Medical College Center for Disaster Medicine. “We believe the improved learning methodology of the new Red Cross curriculum and the collaboration with HealthStream will ultimately improve resuscitation outcomes.”

Collectively, more than 600,000 healthcare professionals have taken the previous version of the Basic Life Support course. In development for over two years, the new resuscitation curriculum builds on this success, combining the most advanced, impact-proven pedagogies with adult learning practices for optimal results. After previewing the new resuscitation curriculum, the U.S. Military Training Network chose in October to implement it worldwide in 2019, which will include the participation of more than 250,000 U.S. military personnel.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
