Alaska Maritime Physicians (AMP) Selects DrChrono Mobile-EHR to Support Treating Patients at Sea

Telemedicine

DrChrono Inc., the company enabling the medical practice of the future, today announced that Alaska Maritime Physicians (AMP) has selected DrChrono’s mobile-Electronic Health Record (EHR) to assist in its ship to shore telemedicine efforts providing medical care, support and services to the maritime industry.

Alaska Maritime Physicians (AMP) is a premier provider of urgent medical assistance to crews at sea. The Alaska licensed physicians communicate with the vessels and facilities, give orders for treatment and transportation, and manage recovery and triage through a clinically integrated network.

Since going live on the DrChrono mobile EHR platform this year, AMP has treated and logged approximately 350 patient occurrences at sea and at its clinic in Anchorage, AK. The AMP physicians are available 24×7/365 days a year and equipped with an iPad and iPhone to access a patient’s medical record immediately when they’re providing remote consultations and medical support to a patient at sea. The AMP physician can prescribe medication, order diagnostic testing and procedures, and make specialist referrals through the DrChrono mobile platform. The physician can also log into the patient’s treatment plan and provide a timeline for medical clearance to include return to duty, travel, or continuation of the recovery plan.

DrChrono worked closely with AMP to create custom workflows and templates for the AMP physicians that are helping them easily enter and analyze certain ailments and situations that occur more often on vessels, such as treating burns, lacerations, frostbite, broken bones and other sea-related illnesses. Additionally, the iPhone’s FaceID feature allows physicians to quickly log in and access a patient’s medical record from their phone which is helpful in emergency situations. The patient data logged in the DrChrono EHR is also proving to be useful to support insurance claims, workman’s compensation reports and documentation from AMP’s medical team.

“We are bringing a telemedicine solution to a 20-year problem at sea,” said R Scott Lord, Vice President of Operations at Alaska Maritime Physicians “We are in the business of treating the men and women at sea who don’t typically have a full time medical staff on board. DrChrono is a big part of our growth plan to be a sustainable company. In order to grow our business and successfully manage patient data, we needed a reliable mobile-EHR that had all the features and customization to support our telemedicine goals. DrChrono was the only EHR on the market that could deliver.”

“This is an exciting telemedicine solution and we’re pleased to see that our mobile EHR is supporting the growing AMP network,” said Daniel Kivatinos, COO and Co-Founder of DrChrono. “We provide the only full featured EHR available on the iOS platform that leverages the latest Apple technology which is proving to be extremely useful for AMP when the physicians only have their phone to access a patient’s medical information out at sea.”
