Allscripts Rapid Application Deployments Improves Physician Care Delivery

Allscripts Rapid Application Deployments Improves Physician Care Delivery

Allscripts (NASDAQ:MDRX) Open platform, physician practices can deploy innovative technologies that help their organizations and their patients right away. Clients can integrate third-party applications into their Allscripts electronic health records (EHRs) and Practice Management (PM) systems in a matter of minutes or hours—instead of days or weeks. It’s one of many transformational aspects of the Allscripts platform that recently motivated Microsoft to recognize Allscripts Chief Innovation Officer Stanley Crane with the 2015 CXO Next Innovation Award.

Allscripts Rapid Install™ is just one potential benefit of the flexibility of Allscripts Open platform. The Open platform reduces or eliminates the cost, time and planning involved in traditional HL7 interface implementations. As a result, physician practices can quickly deploy many Allscripts Developer Program (ADP) partner applications with little or no implementation cost. Once the practice has the Allscripts Unity™ interface engine, it acts like a power strip. The practice can then buy and use as many certified developer applications as it wants, quickly and seamlessly. Several recent installations prove that Allscripts clients can quickly activate the innovative tools they need.

Care coordination: Meeting requirements for new CMS Chronic Care Management program

Arbor Family Medicine (Thornton, Colorado, U.S.A.) relies on Allscripts Professional EHR to deliver care and meet requirements from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). In 2015, CMS introduced new monthly reimbursement opportunities for physician practices that coordinate care for patients with multiple chronic diseases, such as asthma and diabetes.

Allscripts partner CareSync developed a chronic care application that combines easy-to-use technology for patients with nursing services to help providers meet the requirements of the new CMS Chronic Care Management reimbursement opportunity. Arbor Family Medicine was up and running with CareSync just 43 minutes after signing the contract.

“At first we were excited about the new Medicare Chronic Care Management coding, but we quickly realized that regardless of our intent, we couldn’t qualify to bill for it without hiring additional staff and building an infrastructure. CareSync already has the staff and the training to partner with us to get our patients under control. Their work will help us hit a large number of patient-centered medical home (PCMH) goals as well,” Ann Arbor Physician Dr. Philip J. Rosenblum said.

Efficiency: Customized appointment reminders help reduce no-shows

Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Texas (Frisco, Texas, U.S.A.) is a specialty practice that uses Allscripts Professional EHR to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes through faster service, more effective risk management, and streamlined patient communication and education.

The practice implemented RemindMe, an application from Allscripts partner Talksoft, to contact its patients with custom reminders for upcoming appointments. Easy to set up, it took less than three hours after the client signed with Talksoft to implement the tool proven to reduce no-shows.

“The Talksoft set up was simple, quick and offered the customization our office was looking for,” said Mary Kay Martin, Practice Administrator, Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Texas. “We are very happy with the product, and our patients appreciate and respond to the email, text, and phone call reminders.”

“Beyond the speed of connecting, Allscripts Open Platform can bring amazing healthcare technologies to our clients,” said Allscripts Chief Innovation Officer Stanley Crane. “With Open APIs since 2007, Allscripts clients can quickly implement new innovations, such as genomics or chronic care management or whatever that provider needs quickly.”

Industry recognition for transformational innovation

Rapid Install™ is just one example of how the Allscripts Open platform can empower physician practices to quickly deploy innovations. The company’s commitment to innovation has earned industry recognition. For his visionary leadership, Stanley Crane recently received a 2015 CXO NEXT Innovation Award from Microsoft Corporation. The award recognizes Allscripts achievements in interoperability using Open APIs to connect its products with third-party developers, an innovation made possible by a Microsoft platform.

“In this ever-shifting, mobile-first, cloud-first world, organizations must constantly evaluate how they operate, empowering employees to innovate and move the business forward,” said Ron Markezich, Corporate Vice President, US Enterprise & Partner Group, Microsoft Corp. “The winners of this year’s CXO NEXT Innovation Awards met this challenge with enthusiasm, using technology to improve operations and better connect with their customers.”
