Altera Digital Health Joins TEFCA Data Exchange via Sunrise Axon

Sunrise’s Latest Release Now Available to Support Secure Nationwide Interoperability

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Altera Digital Health, a global leader in health IT, today announced the launch of Sunrise™ Axon, a new solution that delivers normalized, deduplicated, real-time patient information directly within provider workflows at the point of care. Now generally available to U.S.-based clients using the Sunrise electronic health record (EHR), Sunrise Axon aims to enhance patient outcomes and experiences while boosting provider efficiency, productivity, and satisfaction.

Developed in partnership with Health Gorilla—the only organization recognized as both a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) and a Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO)—Sunrise Axon enables secure, standards-based interoperability with any organization aligned with the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). Clinicians using Sunrise Axon gain access to clinical data from over 220 million patients, 750,000 clinicians, and 147,000 care sites nationwide, including national laboratory networks, health information exchanges (HIEs), and imaging providers. By bringing external data directly into the EHR, Sunrise Axon supports clinical decision-making without relying on third-party brokers, avoiding information gaps and eliminating disruptive workarounds.

“With Sunrise Axon, we’re making it easier for clinicians to see the full picture of their patients—without leaving their workflows,” said Jay Adams, Executive Vice President for Sunrise at Altera Digital Health. “It’s about delivering better-informed care, enabling faster decisions, and providing seamless access to external data. This represents a key evolution of our EHR, adding measurable value for both clinicians and the patients they serve.”

By expanding access to data, Sunrise Axon supports improved care coordination and smoother transitions between providers, while also helping reduce waste, such as duplicate testing. Additionally, it can lower costs by eliminating the need for multiple individual connections to state and local health information exchanges (HIEs).
