Aprima Medical Software to Integrate ActX Genomic Decision Support Into EHRs

Aprima Medical Software, a Dallas-based maker of ambulatory electronic health records, has become the latest health IT vendor to announce plans to integrate the ActX genomic decision support platform into its EHRs, the two companies said Tuesday.

The integration will allow Aprima EHR users to receive alerts about potentially harmful drug-genomic interactions when writing electronic prescriptions. It also will make full genomic profiles available directly through patient charts.

“We are proud to help Aprima make genomics a practical part of everyday medical care by building genomic decision support into their normal physician workflow,” Andrew Ury, Founder and CEO of Seattle-based ActX, said in a statement. Ury, a physician entrepreneur with a long history in health IT, founded an early ambulatory EHR system, Practice Partner, in 1983, before selling that company to McKesson.

ActX has previously integrated its technology with Epic Systems user NorthShore University HealthSystem and with CompuGroup Medical US, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Athenahealth, Cerner, and Greenway Health EHRs. It also has completed an integration with stand-alone e-prescribing system NewCrop.
