St. Louis-based Ascension and Oracle are deepening their partnership to enhance AI and other healthcare technologies, reports the Nashville Business Journal.
The 121-hospital system is integrating Ascension’s electronic health records (EHR) with Oracle’s enterprise resource planning system to reduce costs, according to the September 30 article.
“How do we, as health systems, come together to tackle the big-picture challenge that healthcare is unsustainable?” said Ascension Executive Vice President and CFO Saurabh Tripathi on September 29 at the Nashville Health Care Council’s third annual Nashville Health Care Sessions, as reported by the Business Journal. “Ascension is fortunate to have 600 data scientists who use advanced data analytics and AI to guide us toward reducing inefficiencies in our system.”
Both Ascension and Oracle are expanding their AI initiatives as the healthcare industry increasingly adopts the technology to improve automation and support clinicians.
Oracle Health chair Dr. David Feinberg cautioned at the event, “If we’re not careful with AI, it could lead to poor healthcare outcomes. Introducing an AI tool into a health system should be treated like hiring a new employee—it needs proper onboarding and must understand the culture.”
