Athenahealth Connects Care Through Community Giving

Community Health System (CHS) in Munster Ind., U.S.A., has selected Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX) dbMotion™ to serve as the foundation of its clinically integrated network. The three-hospital system is building the network to connect with its newly formed Community Healthcare Partners group and the state health information exchange, with the goal of ultimately improving quality of care.

Community Healthcare System is a nonprofit organization caring for patients throughout Northwest Indiana, and is comprised of Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Community Healthcare Partners is the clinically integrated healthcare provider network that unites independent and employed physicians with Community Healthcare System’s hospitals. This network brings together more than 600 area physicians to collaborate on ways to improve the quality of care, patient satisfaction and efficiency of healthcare costs.

The Allscripts dbMotion platform is expected to provide extensive interoperability across the multitude of disparate electronic health records (EHR) deployed throughout the broader area, including Community Healthcare System’s acute EHR. This interoperability will help enable the healthcare system to meet the visionary objectives of its clinically integrated network project, namely achieving community-wide data sharing, care coordination and population health management.

“We evaluated a number of vendors and solutions to help us build our clinically integrated network,” said Gary Weiner, Community Healthcare System’s Chief Information Officer. “We were determined to find a platform that would enable us to efficiently and effectively share the data instrumental to our success. Allscripts dbMotion was the clear choice. It aggregates and harmonizes data from virtually all of the EHRs in the community and delivers actionable information directly into the providers’ workflow at the point of care.”

In addition to the core functionality, Community Healthcare System will also use Allscripts dbMotion’s Collaborate and Clinical Analytics Gateway (CAG) functionality. Collaborate allows the care team to filter and sort lists of patients, and develop action plans to close gaps in care and improve coordination. CAG will help enable the healthcare system to use its existing analytics technologies for better population health management, as well as improved clinical and operational performance.

“Our clinically integrated network will be dedicated to ensuring that our patients get the best care possible,” said Alan Kumar, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer, Community Healthcare System. “We recognize how important data aggregation is to overall patient care. The Allscripts dbMotion platform gives us the tools we need to genuinely impact quality and to create a progressive environment for better coordination and collaboration among caregivers.”

“The concept of clinically integrated networks is gaining momentum across the industry as visionary leaders like Community Healthcare System’s Chief Operating Officer John Gorski and his senior executive team drive efforts for better patient care and population health management,” said Martha Thorne, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Population Health Management at Allscripts. “Our solutions are well positioned to help Community Healthcare System achieve its objectives, and we are committed to this partnership and to the success of the Community Healthcare Partners.”
