Athenahealth Creates Versions of Its EHR with a Specialty Focus

There will soon be a version for mental health in addition to the first two iterations for women’s health and urgent care.

Versions of the cloud-based EHR software from ambulatory health IT provider athenahealth are designed specifically for use in specialized medical offices and care locations. Women’s health and urgent care are the topics of the first two editions. In the upcoming months, the business intends to launch solutions for more specialties, such as athenaOne for Behavioral Health, as well as solutions for more places of care.

The new workflows with a specialization focus interact with athenaOne, the current EHR system.

The chief medical officer of athenhealth, Nele Jessel, M.D., noted in a blog post that specialty-specific EHRs have been promising customized solutions that could result in highly personalized workflows, but they are missing important features, integrations, and practice management solutions that a more comprehensive generalist system can offer.

Athenahealth hopes to eliminate that tradeoff with its new solutions. Each solution, according to the statement, will combine the extensive feature set and capabilities of one of the most complete EHR and practice management systems available with specialized operational, clinical, and customer support capabilities made to meet the particular requirements of that specialty or care location.

The goal of urgent care facilities’ business models is to provide patients with high-quality, on-demand service. According to the organization, this calls for successful marketing and brand awareness, the ability to provide “walk-in” patients with seamless experiences, and the ability to grow to effectively provide care for more patients without sacrificing quality.

According to Mandy Cordell, clinical director of Urgent Care Northwest, “urgent care centers fill a critical gap between primary care physicians and emergency rooms and therefore we have very unique needs in order to be successful as a business while also providing a consumer-grade patient experience that keeps patients coming back time and time again.” “Athenahealth has been instrumental in providing us with the tools we need that allow our providers to spend more time with patients and to deliver exceptional patient experiences that lead to repeat visits, which is absolutely necessary when running a growing business. They understand the needs and experiences specific to urgent care centers.”

According to athenahealth, women’s health providers require a solution that emphasizes a woman’s whole health journey and enables them to provide the best knowledgeable, coordinated, and compassionate care possible for their patients.

As a women’s health clinic, we support our clients at various points in their healthcare journeys and at significant life events related to their health. In order to deliver consistent, coordinated treatment, it is crucial that physicians and staff have access to solutions that offer a holistic patient picture, according to a statement from San Francisco Gynecology Inc. gynecologist Katherine Gregory, M.D., M.P.H. “By automating important administrative duties, Athenahealth has been a vital partner in helping us deliver high-quality care to our patients and has also enabled our practice to be more efficient, allowing our clinicians and staff to maximize time with patients at every visit.”

According to the business, the solutions feature fresh and customized capabilities that meet the particular requirements of specialty practices, such as:

  • improvements to specialty-specific products, such as pre-configured, best-practice workflows and customized clinical content, based on information obtained from the athenahealth network
  • Dedicated and aggressive client success and onboarding managers with a particular emphasis
  • curated alliances that attend to the specific requirements of speciality professions
  • a path for innovation tailored to particular places of care and specialty practices.
