Benefits of Using Artificial Intelligence

It’s no secret that artificial intelligence is sweeping the tech world. More and more brands are introducing virtual assistants, websites rely on lifelike chatbots for customer service and even cars are finding ways for AI to drive us around town. Although some types of AI can spark controversy, there are many benefits to using this technology in certain aspects of business and everyday life. Let’s go through some ways AI can be more helpful than humans.

Reduces Errors

Humans make mistakes. It’s what makes us…well, human! But in precise fields such as data engineering or computer information science, those mistakes can cause big problems. Artificial intelligence is a more reliable approach to all those mundane little tasks that tend to make humans zone out or lose track of their actions. It can help to reduce errors in projects and designs that then allows the humans on board to complete tasks quicker and more efficiently.

Transfers Risk

Sometimes the things we need technology for can be risky. That’s when AI can be especially helpful. Sending a robot equipped with AI means we can leave us humans in a safe location and out of harm’s way. This tactic is most notably used with space exploring robots. Things like the Mars Rover or deep space probes are equipped with technology that allow them to travel and relay data back to us on Earth. Scientists are even working on ways for AI to manage data gathered by satellites!
All of this equipment prevents the need (and cost) of training astronauts and sending them into dangerous or unknown environments.

Always On

Another benefit of AI is that it doesn’t have to take a break. Where humans need to rest and eat and sleep, AI can just keep plugging away 24 hours a day. This means we can get huge projects done faster and don’t have to waste manpower on things a computer could do for us. This can be especially helpful in settings like educational institutes that offer online assistance or round-the-clock hotlines that help people in need.

Takes On Repetitive Tasks

What if your job was to enter data into a spreadsheet for 8 hours a day? You’d probably get pretty sick of it pretty quickly. Using AI to take over these repetitive kinds of tasks can not only reduce errors (like we already talked about) but it can also simply be more convenient. Business owners can reserve their staff’s time and talent for things that can really help them grow or increase their bottom line instead of wasting them on simple tasks day in and day out.

Provides Digital Assistance

Odds are you’ve interacted with a chatbot once or twice in your time as an internet user. It’s that little chat box in the corner of a website and you can choose from a list of questions to ask. Sometimes you can even type in your own question. Most of the time, the person on the other end of that conversation is actually an AI.
Using an AI to address basic customer needs and answer frequently asked questions can greatly reduce the need for staff to attend to just these simple tasks. Some businesses even go as far as to automate emails and other communication through customer relationship management software. It can greatly reduce a team’s workload and often provide excellent customer service.

Makes Daily Tasks Easier

It might only save you a few seconds, but it isn’t easier to say “Hey, Siri. What’s the weather?” than to check your phone? Assistants like Siri, Alexa or Cortana are all great examples of how AI is already improving everyday life for most of us. They help us with all those little administrative tasks we might forget to do otherwise and act as a main information source in our lives.
Artificial intelligence might be controversial on a large scale, but it’s already improving everyday life and business operations.
