Carestream Wins Contract to Streamline Medical Image Management Systems across South Denmark

Carestream Wins Contract to Streamline Medical image

Multi-year Agreement Will Replace All Existing RIS and PACS Systems in the Region with a Single, Unified Solution from Carestream

Carestream Health has been awarded a contract to replace all existing RIS and PACS systems installed across the Region of Southern Denmark with a single unified IT solution to be known as RIPA SYD. The multi-year agreement includes various modules of the Carestream Clinical Collaboration Platform (see video link), including ordering and scheduling modules, a global worklist module, radiology workstation module, enterprise viewer module, capture module and business analytics.

In issuing the tender for the new contract in early 2018, the Regional Council’s Digitisation Committee sought to improve collaboration and facilitate image and information exchange across the Region of Southern Denmark’s four hospital trusts: Odense Universitetshospital, Sygehus Lillebælt, Sygehus Sønderjylland and Sydvestjysk Sygehus. These trusts currently use a mix of RIS and PACS systems from a range of suppliers to handle their imaging and data requirements. At present, four independent systems are being used by 11 radiology departments regionally. However, with approximately 1.5 million radiology exams being captured per year, and around 1.2 million citizens to support, there are significant advantages to be gained by streamlining the technology the trusts use for their diagnostic imaging, including for radiology, nuclear medicine and mammography screening.

The Region of Southern Denmark has been a long-standing Carestream customer, with a highly customised Carestream RIS solution being used across a number of its hospitals and breast screening services. The new common IT solution from Carestream will facilitate both workflows and patient safety for the trusts, with all relevant images and the accompanying data being stored in a single system for the first time.

The Carestream Clinical Collaboration Platform will support patient care across multiple hospitals and make it easier to comply with the principles of healthcare. “‘It is essential that the new platform will help patients experience their treatment as coherent and holistic. With RIPA SYD, we ensure that—regardless of which department or hospital our patients are referred to in the region—patient X-ray exams and results will be part of their medical records,” said Mette Bossen Linnet, Chair of the Digitisation Committee.

“At the same time, it will mean our clinicians’ professional skills can be enhanced when images and image data in the future are collected in one system rather than spread across four systems,” said Ms. Bossen Linnet.

“Our team of healthcare IT experts are already focused on working with the Region of Southern Denmark on this exceptional initiative. Through the implementation of our innovative platform and according to a carefully managed roll-out plan, we will enable the hospital trusts and their staff to simplify medical image management, improve collaboration and workflow, and enhance patient care,” added Christian Vigh, Key Account Manager for Carestream, Denmark.
