Centura Health Receives HIMSS Davies Award for Health IT

How this LA Hospital spent $70M on a 'cutting-edge' IT Infrastructure

For its achievements in implementing health IT, Centura Health the most recent recipient of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2015 Enterprise Davies Award.

According to a HIMSS press release, Centura Health received the award for using health IT systems to improve patient care by leveraging population health management and chronic disease management, resulting in a reduction of chronic care admissions.

Across the entire health system, heart failure readmissions dropped by nearly 16 percent. Additionally, the overall cost of care per patient fell by approximately 7 percent. This is due to Centura Health’s Medicare Shared Savings Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model, which emphasizes value of care over volume.

Centura Health executives stated they were honored to receive the HIMSS Davies Award, explaining that the award is a testament to the high standards the health system holds for its hospitals, as well as Centura’s commitment to high-quality patient care.

“We are honored to have been awarded the HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence, as it truly exemplifies the high standards that Centura Health strives for in our pursuit to leverage technology to provide excellent patient care,” said Centura Health’s senior vice president of information technology Dana Moore. “A strong partnership between caregivers and technology has been at the heart of achieving this goal, and we couldn’t possibly be more proud of the outcomes of this collaboration.”

Established in 1994, the HIMSS Davies Award recognizes healthcare organizations who leverage health IT to improve patient care. By utilizing EHRs, Davies awardees share patient information, coordinate care, and improve the efficiency of physician workflow.

HIMSS representatives explained that Centura Health received the award because of its mission to achieve those patient-centered goals.

“The Davies Committee and HIMSS congratulate the team members of Centura Health on improving the outcomes of their patient population through the effective use of health IT,” said director of HIMSS Davies Enterprise Committee Jonathan French.

Centura Health runs 16 hospitals in Colorado and Kansas, managing several different kinds of facilities such as 30-bed clinics and a Level One Trauma Center.
