Cerner taps BlueCat to automate and speed its cloud-based offerings

Healthcare IT giant Cerner is giving its datacenters a boost with technology from Toronto-based BlueCat.

BlueCat makes DDI software, comprising DNS, DHCP and IP address management, for building and managing complex network infrastructure without re-architecting every time they expand.

The move will enable Cerner to automate and speed the multi-tenant network with which it offers hospitals an array of hosted and cloud-based services.

“It’s critical that we keep our e-health data and infrastructure secure, reliable and scalable so we can respond rapidly to new business requirements,” Cerner principal architect Jon Macy said in a statement. “We teamed with BlueCat to strengthen our infrastructure to support our evolving and expanding business as well as innovations in emerging technologies.”

Cerner undertook a rigorous review and testing of competitive offerings, Macy said. Among BlueCat’s pluses were its technology, innovative culture and development focus on current and emerging technologies, Cerner added.
