Chicago HealthTech Company Emmi Solutions Acquired for $170M

Chicago’s Emmi Solutions, a patient engagement software company, has been acquired for $170 million.

Netherlands-based information services company Wolters Kluwer Health announced Tuesday it has agreed to acquire Emmi for $170 million in cash. Founded in 2002, Emmi provides interactive patient engagement solutions and helps hospitals and health systems inform patients on how to actively participate in their healthcare.

Emmi’s personalized communication tools span the spectrum of care from prevention, to treatment, to patient follow-up in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.

“Patients who engage in their care have the potential to make better decisions and achieve improved health outcomes,” Diana Nole, CEO of Wolters Kluwer Health, said in a statement. “We are pleased to add this state-of-the-art patient engagement product to our range of clinical solutions. Combining Emmi`s products with our UpToDate and drug information offerings, we can now uniquely provide healthcare systems and their patients a consistent, high quality, evidence based solution that spans the entire continuum of care.”

Emmi was founded by Jordan Dolin and David Sobel in 2002, and its clients include North Shore University Health System, Stanford Health Care, Centura Health, and Aetna. Emmi’s revenues are expected to reach $29 million in 2016, the company said in the news release. Emmi is the 82nd largest digital employer in Chicago, according to Built in Chicago, with 130 employees.
