Cleveland Clinic Innovations Launches E-commerce Company

Cleveland Clinic Innovations — the health care giant’s business development arm — launched ADEO, an e-commerce company designed to sell digital health care products directly to hospitals, private practice docs and even patients.

The Clinic described the website, www.onadeo.com , as “one of the nation’s first online marketplaces for medical innovations.” At current, the website, which quietly launched last October, boasts 13 products from the Clinic and its partners, including educational toolkits, apps and other software.

The service is an outgrowth of the Global Healthcare Innovations Alliance, a Clinic-led network of hospital systems, academic institutions and industry partners. The alliance includes the Cleveland Clinic, Marshfield Clinic, MedStar Health, North Shore — LIJ, ProMedica, The Innovation Institute and the University of Notre Dame.

“These aren’t just any solutions. These digital assets are conceived and developed by Cleveland Clinic caregivers and our alliance partners,” said Gary Fingerhut, executive director of Cleveland Clinic Innovations, who first envisioned the marketplace, in a news release. “The solutions on ADEO are proven to work within complex workflows and are designed to be integrated, streamlining practices to provide better care.”

Among the products offered are Cologene, Clinic-developed data management software that helps track family-based medical studies. Also, the website also boasts a smart phone app developed by ProMedica that allows users to monitor ambient noise levels to protect their hearing. Typically, the Clinic said these technologies would have to be licensed to third parties before going to market.

The website, meanwhile, is the Clinic’s first foray in the e-commerce space. The name “ADEO” comes from the Latin phrase meaning “to go forward.”
