Dec 15 : HIMSS Analytics Honors Hospital, Health System

himss analytics

Michigan’s Beaumont Hospital Troy received the Stage 7 Award and the Beaumont Health System the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

HIMSS Analytics, the not-for-profit subsidiary of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), has presented Beaumont Hospital Troy in Troy, MI with its Stage 7 Award and 144 of Beaumont Health System’s ambulatory clinics with Stage 7 Ambulatory Awards.

HIMSS Analytics developed the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Adoption Model in 2005 to evaluate the progress and impact of EMR systems for hospitals that are represented in the HIMSS Analytics Database. The eight stages of the Adoption Model measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of IT applications.

Stage 7 is the last and “represents an advanced patient record environment,” according to a HIMSS Analytics news release. The confirmation process for determining that a facility has reached Stage 7 – and can then be given the Stage 7 Award – includes a site visit by both a HIMSS Analytics executive and former or current chief information officer to ensure an unbiased evaluation of Stage 7 environments.

The EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model was developed in 2011 as a way to evaluate the progress that ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database have made with EMR systems and their impact. Such facilities include physician offices, clinics, outpatient centers, and specialty clinics.

These facilities have the ability to review the implementation and use of IT applications when tracking their progress toward completing the eight stages, with the intent of reaching Stage 7. As with the Stage 7 Award, the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award recognizes facilities that have an advanced electronic patient record environment.

Beaumont Health System is a regional health system of three hospitals that includes 1,778 licensed beds, more than 20,000 employees, and 3,100 physicians, with 553 employed in the Beaumont Medical Group and more than 2,500 in private practice. In addition to its three hospitals, Beaumont has more than 50 community-based sites of care that include medical centers, family and internal medicine practices, nursing centers, and home care and hospice services.

Beaumont Health System will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on April 12-16, 2015, in Chicago.
