Dec 16 : Physician Advisory Board Drives Usability Enhancements

physician advisory

Clinicians help develop the next generation of health IT to help them deliver better, faster and more cost-efficient care.

When OnBase by Hyland formed its Physician Advisory Board (PAB), it was looking for feedback on how it could better meet the needs of those delivering patient care. The PAB, comprised of six highly-respected clinicians, has driven multiple enhancements to OnBase, including improvements to the OnBase Patient Window, where clinicians can access a more complete patient record, including DICOM images and content stored outside of the EMR.

As patient records grow in size and the amount of content, it has become increasingly more important to be able to quickly deliver the most relevant content to clinicians in a format that meets their needs and preferences. The OnBase Patient Window enables clinicians to choose a view that is most relevant to their practice.

“With the advent and wide-spread adoption of the electronic medical record (EMR), many physicians have come to appreciate the complexities of presenting appropriate patient information which does not impede workflow,” said Dr. Vaughan, M.D., M.B.A., director, medical informatics, Sharp Healthcare. “A physician advisory board is instrumental in providing early insight to software companies that augment the EMR.”

The PAB provides invaluable usability testing and scenario-based feedback that helps mold the product roadmap, creating a more flexible solution capable of handling complex cases, sharing medical information with other healthcare organizations and enabling clinicians to leverage mobile devices to deliver better patient care.

“Some of the most valuable feedback we can get is from the clinicians using the product,” said Michelle Maly, director of healthcare development, Hyland, creator of OnBase. “Clinicians have a lot on their plates, our goal is to create solutions that make their jobs easier and help them focus on patient care.”
