Dec 22 : Collaboration with our EMR providers: Allscripts

health-grade capabilities

By Clifford Goldsmith | Managing Director, US Healthcare Providers

Working with our Electronic Medical Records providers has been rewarding in that this is an area where we can really make a difference in delivering solutions to clinical organizations that help them be more efficient, and can help their staff provide improved care. I recently came back from a great trip to the Allscripts Client Experience (ACE) conference in Chicago. It was truly impressive to see how ACE has grown from about 1,200 attendees four years ago to nearly 4,000 attendees this year. And no wonder, given that today’s cloud services and mobile solutions are meeting the needs of more and more health professionals with health-grade capabilities and flexibility.

Case in point: Resurgens Orthopaedics, Georgia’s largest orthopedics practice, is improving workflow and enhancing their patients’ experiences by equipping staff with a full-featured, touch-enabled, electronic health record (EHR) app running on an enterprise tablet. Bradley Dick, Chief Information Officer at Resurgens Orthopaedics, shared the results of the company’s proof of concept (POC) during one of the panel sessions at ACE. For the POC, physicians and clinical staff used the Allscripts Wand for TouchWorks EHR, powered by Windows 8 and running on HP 2-in-1 devices with the Intel Core i5 processor. During the session, Bradley Dick discussed how both the practice and its patients benefited from the solution and the company’s plans to make it a standard option for its physicians and staff moving forward. You can read more in the case study.

One of the best devices I saw at the show was the HP ElitePad. It is such a great form factor (size, weight) and has great battery life- and I am increasingly seeing it show up in our customers.

At ACE, clinical applications running on Windows 8 were being demonstrated on everything from mobile devices like the HP ElitePad to 82-inch screens. In the photo below, Stanley Crane, Chief Technology Officer of Allscripts, shows off the work that Allscripts has been doing with Windows 8 on a Perceptive Pixel device—and quickly gets surrounded.

Over the course of the four-day show, our Microsoft team held hundreds of discussions with health organizations. Across the board, these health leaders were excited about how the wide variety of enterprise-class mobile offerings can help them equip their health professionals to work more efficiently and provide better patient experiences from anywhere. They’re also thrilled that today’s analytics are self-service and easy to use so everyone across their organization can unlock the value of big data and gain insights to better manage population health.

We all know that the health industry is facing a lot of challenges right now. So it was great to see how today’s technologies are helping health organizations tackle those challenges in innovative and cost-effective ways.
