eCW Enhances EHR and Revenue Cycle Platforms Through AI-Driven Innovations

EMR Industry

eClinicalWorks unveiled a suite of AI tools designed to strengthen connections between physicians and patients, as well as billing teams and healthcare consumers.

At its 2025 National Conference in Orlando, Florida, eClinicalWorks’ top executives delivered a three-hour keynote packed with software demonstrations highlighting the company’s latest innovations.

According to CEO and cofounder Girish Navani, eCW’s new AI-powered tools and specialty care solutions are designed to improve patient outcomes, ease physician burnout, and expand equitable access to quality care.

Company leaders showcased three forms of ambient computing: smart glasses for physicians, keyboard-free exam rooms, and LCD displays presenting relevant patient data during consultations.

“We are witnessing a major transformation in the user interface,” Navani said. “It is evolving right before our eyes.”

Beyond front-end enhancements, eCW also reported strong pilot results from its AI-driven revenue cycle automation, announced new value-based care services to help identify at-risk patients, and revealed plans to launch an inpatient EHR for underserved hospitals in 2026.

Ambient Computing, AI-Generated “Podcasts” Highlight eCW Innovations
During the 2025 National Conference, eClinicalWorks CEO Girish Navani shared a story about a child asked to draw a doctor for a homework assignment. Instead of a stethoscope, the child drew a physician with a computer—a subtle reflection of how digital transformation has reshaped medicine over the past two decades, with doctors now entering exam rooms either carrying or stationed at a computer.

Navani showcased how ambient computing, powered by Sunoh.ai and integrated with smart glasses, could transform both in-clinic and after-hours physician workflows. The technology allows physicians to stay fully engaged with patients while the software listens, transcribes, and generates clinical notes in the background. It also provides seamless, contextual access to patient data without manual navigation.

“The smart wearables will become powerful augmentation devices, improving the care experience inside clinics, saving time outside clinics, and allowing doctors to focus on what matters most,” Navani explained.

He then demonstrated AI-powered tools that turn patient call information and practice revenue updates into personalized, on-demand “podcasts” for doctors and practice managers. Using the new Healow Genie AI-Powered Contact Center platform, AI agents automate routine tasks such as appointment management, refills, referrals, and payments.

Navani illustrated the concept with a live demo: by simply saying, “Hey Sunoh, could you play my morning podcast briefing?” the platform provided a summary of patient encounters, lab results, prescription refill requests, messages, and scheduled appointments. He could then assign tasks to staff or pause and resume the personalized briefing seamlessly.

Expanding beyond clinical workflows, Navani highlighted how AI can also benefit finance teams. A “finance podcast” example provided an overview of visits, no-shows, claim submissions, co-pay collection, and Healow check-in usage—all delivered via voice prompts for quick, actionable insights.

A third innovation, Cards, uses ambient AI to visually support patient conversations without keyboards or mice. The system dynamically displays relevant information—such as lab results or discharge summaries—on tablets, LCD screens, or even smart glasses, triggered by the ongoing dialogue between doctor and patient.

Navani emphasized that these advancements in ambient computing and AI are designed to streamline workflows, enhance patient engagement, and extend efficiency across both clinical and administrative operations.

eCW Enhances VBC Services and Revenue Cycle Efficiency with AI Tools
eClinicalWorks has introduced new value-based care (VBC) services aimed at enabling early interventions to improve chronic disease management. The company also reported promising results from a revenue cycle automation pilot this year, which is significantly reducing the administrative burden of processing paper explanations of benefits (EOBs), a historically time-consuming task.

The AI-driven analytics platform, CIPHR, helps identify at-risk patients, supports early intervention, and tracks key VBC performance metrics. Additionally, eCW’s remote patient monitoring tools now support cellular devices, extending clinical oversight beyond traditional settings.

eCW emphasized that AI is critical for both administrative and clinical efficiency in revenue cycle management, with enhancements now able to handle tasks such as insurance eligibility verification and appeals.

According to CEO Girish Navani, initial metrics from the Autonomous Claims Verification pilot vary by practice size and specialty. Early results show a dramatic improvement in processing paper remittances, with users reporting up to a 300% increase in efficiency when posting paper EOBs. The company is continuing to collect data and feedback to assess the broader operational benefits and autonomous capabilities of the technology.

eCW Expands EHR Capabilities to Inpatient and Underserved Settings
eClinicalWorks announced plans to extend its EHR offerings beyond traditional ambulatory care to pharmacies, emergency departments, and inpatient facilities, with a focus on improving healthcare accessibility in underserved areas. CEO Girish Navani stated that the company expects to launch a new inpatient EHR tailored for critical access and rural hospitals next year.

The company also unveiled enhancements supporting nationwide interoperability as part of its commitment to the CMS Digital Health Tech Ecosystem initiative. This includes expanding its qualified health information network, PRISMANet, with AI capabilities that summarize large document sets from external systems and provide streamlined search across both internal and external data sources.

To date, eCW has introduced 125 AI-driven features across its product suite, including tools for integrating transcribed data into progress notes, assisting with coding, and summarizing information from scanned or faxed documents.
