Annual Lower and Upper Canada Anesthesia Symposium 2020 (LUCAS)

Annual Lower and Upper Canada Anesthesia Symposium 2020 (LUCAS)

ABOUT ANNUAL LOWER & UPPER CANADA ANESTHESIA SYMPOSIUM 2020 (LUCAS)

On behalf of the Departments of Anesthesia of McGill University, Queen’s University, and the University of Ottawa, we are pleased to invite you to the annual Lower & Upper Canada Anesthesia Symposium (LUCAS). This is a joint conference sponsored by three leading Canadian Anesthesia Departments, with the goal of producing a comprehensive, high caliber learning experience for academic anesthesiologists, community anesthesiologists, and related health-care professionals.

The planning for the 2020 conference is underway. The program will be held in Ottawa on February 1-2, 2020. We will continue our close collaboration with our colleagues at PACT (Perioperative Anesthesia Clinical Trials group) and the ACUDA Chairs as we will be hosting their annual winter meeting at LUCAS.

A clinically oriented Anesthesia conference focused on community anesthesiologists & anesthetists. Presented by the departments of anesthesia from Queen’s, McGill, uOttawa and Northern Ontario School of Medicine. The McGill Anesthesia Update and the Ottawa Winterlude Symposium have merged into a clinically focused event in partnership with Queen’s Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine.

New this year! We have added an additional full day of conference programming as a third pre-conference session on Friday January 31. We will cover a wide range of topics for both the clinical and academic anesthesiologist. See Pre-Conference Sessions for more details!

The 2020 edition of LUCAS will be held on the weekend of January 31- February 2, 2020 in Ottawa.

The Lower and Upper Canada Anesthesia Symposium is expanding! The Departments of Anesthesia of McGill University, Queen’s University, and the University of Ottawa have added the Section of Anesthesia at The Northern Ontario School of Medicine to the conference family.  They represent the academic anesthesiologists in Thunder Bay and Sudbury, Ontario.

2020 is our 4th year. LUCAS is a comprehensive, high caliber learning experience for anesthesiologists, family practice anesthetists, anesthesia assistants, residents, medical students and related health-care professionals.

We have added an additional full day of conference programming on Friday January 31.  The Grand Rounds Speaking competition is going national. We are inviting residents from across Canada to apply to the Resident Grand Rounds Speaking Competition where clinical topics are presented in 12 minutes in a highly engaging and informative atmosphere.  The new Subspecialty Clinical Pearls Sessions will deliver a series of short specific clinical tips from a panel of experts with plenty of time to ask about their approach to your clinical conundrums.

We also continue our close collaboration with our colleagues at PACT (Perioperative Anesthesia Clinical Trials group) and the ACUDA Department Chairs as they host their annual winter meeting at LUCAS.

Ottawa’s world-class cultural, culinary, shopping, and sports experiences will surely add to the social aspect during your stay in this beautiful city! The conference venue at the Westin Hotel conveniently located next to the Historic Rideau Canal.  Bring your skates! Be sure to check out the Ottawa Winterlude Festival and the endless list of social and cultural activities for the whole family.
