Description:

During the Joint Injection Course, there is a strong emphasis on Non-Spinal Injections such as knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, and ankle injections using palpatory methods, anatomical landmarks, and image guidance for needle localization. In addition, soft tissue injections (trigger) points are taught with an emphasis on referred pain and patient testing to create a differential diagnosis of the pain.

The Joint/ Extremity Injection, Pain Management Training course will provide instruction on many other common modalities/procedures that you can offer patients in your office such as viscosupplementation, steroidal injections, and prolotherapy. Botox injections for such common conditions as bruxism, migraine headaches, and other spastic muscular conditions are part of the course study as well as the use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for soft tissue correction and for knee joints.

Program Overview:
The Joint / Extremity / Non Spinal Injection Training course is a combination lecture and workshop where learners will participate in didactic lectures in the morning followed by hands on training using anatomical models in the afternoon. Learners will understand how to utilize interventional pain management injections for the evaluation and treatment of specific pain conditions. The purpose of the training is to help learners provide enhanced patient care to those who present themselves with various medical and pain management conditions. Target audience includes healthcare professionals for procedures which have not been taught in their previous medical education.

Learning Outcome:
To provide learners with a foundation for following correct standards of care and acquire the necessary technical skills to perform each of these procedures correctly and by adhering to published protocols and guidelines

Educational Objectives:

  • Practice interventional pain management procedures using the palpatory method competently, safely, and effectively for their patient. Each participant will understand and learn how to avoid risks and associated complications.
  • Apply the generally accepted protocols for diagnosis and therapeutic for interventional pain injections in conjunction with various chronic and sub-acute medical conditions.
  • Describe the mechanism of action of prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma as well as the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches for injection of joints/bursa.
  • Identify patient benefits from interventional pain management injections for common joint and soft tissue pain. Increase patient awareness and offer enhanced patient care in relation to this non-invasive, non-surgical procedure.
