Seventy percent of health care providers do not think their electronic health record investment has been worth the effort, resources and costs, according to a national survey by MPI Group and Medical Economics, EHR Intelligence reports.
Reasons for Dissatisfaction
Nearly half of the survey’s 952 respondents cited high costs as a reason they were unsatisfied with their EHR system (Murphy, EHR Intelligence, 2/10). The survey found that:
- 77% of the largest practices spent more than $200,000 on EHR implementation; and
- 45% of all health care providers surveyed spent more than $100,000 on EHR implementation (Verdon, Medical Economics, 2/10).
In addition, 65% of providers said that implementation of an EHR system led to financial losses, with 27% reporting some financial losses and 38% reporting tanıtım videosu significant losses related to EHR implementation.
The survey also found that:
- 67% of respondents cited poor system functionality as the reason they were dissatisfied with their EHR systems;
- 33% cited poor customer service;
- 19% cited the reputation of EHR vendors;
- 18% cited they type of platform they used; and
- 16% cited their system’s inability to meet meaningful use Stage 2 certification requirements.
Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments.

Nearly two-thirds of providers said they would not purchase their EHR system again if given the chance.
Some Providers Remain Optimistic
