Few Treatment Options Available At A Pain Management Service in Valdosta

Located in Georgia, Valdosta is one of the southernmost cities in the United States. Valdosta is a city of sales, office workers, service providers, and professionals. In this fast-paced life, most people suffer from several health problems. One of the most common symptoms everyone experiences is pain. Stressful jobs often lead to back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Hence, pain management centers are needed. Luckily, there are several clinics for pain management Valdosta to help you find relief.

If you are experiencing pain and have not found relief from traditional methods, it may be time to consider pain management services. This article will discuss a few treatment options provided at a pain management clinic.

1) Epidural Injections

An epidural injection is a minimally invasive procedure performed in an office. It involves injecting a steroid medication into the epidural space around the spinal cord. This space houses the nerves that send pain signals to your brain.

The goal of an epidural injection is to reduce inflammation and swelling around these nerves, which in turn will help reduce your pain.

You will need to lie on the stomach or side during the procedure. An antiseptic solution is applied to clean the skin, after which a local anesthetic is injected to numb the area.

A small needle is then inserted into the epidural space, and the steroid medication is injected. You can experience some minor discomfort during the injection. The staff will monitor you closely after the injection, and you should be able to go home shortly afterward.

Most people see a significant reduction in their pain following an epidural injection.

2) Peripheral Nerve Blocks

A peripheral nerve block is a local anesthetic injection around a specific group of nerves. This type of pain management can treat arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis and is used to provide pain relief after surgery.

Sometimes peripheral nerve blocks use fluoroscopy, a type of X-ray that allows the physician to see real-time images of the nerves and surrounding structures.

3) Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a treatment used to manage chronic pain. The stimulator is implanted under your skin in the lower back and sends electrical impulses to the spinal cord that blocks pain signals from reaching the brain.

SCS is most often used to treat pain that has not responded well to other treatments, such as medication, physical therapy, and surgery. It has a variety of uses. Some of them are to treat conditions that cause chronic pain, including:

-Chronic back pain

-Pain caused by a spinal cord injury

-Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)

-Failed back surgery syndrome

The simulator is programmed to send the right electrical impulses to block the pain signals.

4) Implantable Drug Delivery System

An implantable drug delivery system (IDDS) is a device that is placed under the skin to deliver medication directly to the spinal cord. The IDDS connects to a pump programmed to deliver the drug regularly.

The IDDS is most often used to treat pain that has not responded well to other treatments, such as medication, physical therapy, and surgery.

Conclusion

Pain can be a challenging thing to deal with daily. Thankfully, there are clinics for pain management in Valdosta that can help relieve chronic pain and make life easier
