Helpful Tips to Stay Healthy for Work

Working the typical nine to five grand can take a toll on your physical and mental health. While this is true, some tips can help you remain healthy. If you are healthy, you will find you have more energy, are more productive at work, and have a better mindset when it comes to going to work every day.

Avoid Snacking
It isn’t unusual to have snacks on your co-workers’ desks when you work in an office. Unfortunately, these can add a lot of unwanted calories to your diet if you aren’t careful. They may also cause you to pack on quite a few unwanted pounds. Usually, if something is out of sight with snacks, it will also not be on your mind. If one of your co-workers seems to have candy on their desk constantly, just walk away or around this area, so you aren’t tempted. Instead of focusing on the candy, take some time to step outside for some fresh air. If you are hungry, consider keeping fruit at your desk. It’s estimated that three out of every five people in the U.S. are overweight. This means there is a good chance that more than one person in your office will be dieting. Since other people are probably trying to lose weight, too, stick around people who have fruit bowls on their desks rather than candy bowls. You can also ask people to replace their bowls of candy with something healthier too. This is going to benefit everyone. If you are trying to get some jobs beyond the office, being overweight may cause issues. Depending on the job you want, it may be smart to learn what can disqualify you from a DOT physical. While obesity alone may not do this, the health issues it causes can.

Drink Plenty of Water
When you are focused on work, it means you may lose track of the amount of water you drink each day. While this is true, you must drink enough so that you remain hydrated and active. If you are dehydrated, it may cause adverse side effects, such as sluggishness and drowsiness. It is recommended that adults drink six to eight glasses of water each day. However, depending on your total level of activity and the temperature in your area, you may need to drink even more. Eating juicy, fresh fruits is another effective way to overcome dehydration and overcome those annoying hunger pangs.

Minimize Caffeine Intake
Some people who spend their entire day in an office find it difficult to get through the day without consuming countless caffeinated drinks. This is fine if you drink caffeine in moderation. Take steps to minimize caffeine consumption to a single cup of coffee every morning to help prevent cases of caffeine crashes in the afternoon. You should also try to limit the use of cream and sugar in your coffee to reduce your total calorie intake.

Practice Good Posture
Keeping good posture all day requires a conscious effort. Some people who use computers will stare into their screens for hours and hours. Because of this, they may stretch or move their neck forward, which will put pressure on your spine and neck. You can avoid this situation if you practice desk exercises. Some of the most popular options include chin retractions, which involve making a “fake” double chin. This is going to provide support for your upper back and neck.

Take Plenty of Breaks
Chances are you want to finish your work as quickly as you can so you can get out of the office and home as quickly as possible. However, this doesn’t mean that you need to sit at your desk for hours without stretching or taking a break. While you may think this is a waste of time, taking a break can actually make you more productive. If you don’t take breaks, you may become mentally sluggish, which will reduce your overall level of creativity. Taking a break will help you rejuvenate and become even more productive.

As you can see from the information above, staying healthy at work requires time and effort. Keep this in mind and the tips above to be as healthy as possible, regardless of your job.
