Long-term acute care hospital using Sunrise EHR to implement Sunrise Health Record
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)- Altera Digital Health, a global health IT leader, announced that Hospital for Special Care (HFSC), a top long-term acute care hospital, has extended its contract for the Sunrise™ electronic health record (EHR) platform through 2032. As part of the renewal, HFSC will upgrade to the latest Sunrise 25.1 version to enhance financial operations and improve clinical usability. Additionally, HFSC will be the first to implement Sunrise Health Record™, Sunrise’s new intelligent faxing solution.
Serving New Britain, Hartford, and Hebron, Conn., HFSC is the fourth-largest long-term acute care hospital in the U.S. and one of only two that provide complex rehabilitation and chronic disease care for both children and adults. HFSC has relied on the Sunrise platform, tailored for mid-size hospitals and health systems, for over ten years. With Sunrise 25.1, HFSC will benefit from around 700 updates and new features, including centralized billing, streamlined denial and appeals tracking, and automated provider-level adjustments to boost financial performance. The upgrade also supports providers by delivering real-time insights, automating administrative tasks, and simplifying clinical workflows to allow greater focus on patient care.
“Altera has been a true partner throughout our entire EHR journey, consistently showing transparency, responsiveness, and alignment with our long-term goals,” said Stan Jankowski, Chief Information Officer at Hospital for Special Care. “Extending our partnership reflects our confidence in both the Sunrise platform and team. This is more than just a technology choice—it’s a strategic investment in infrastructure and resources that will support organizational stability and clinical excellence for years to come.”
HFSC will be the first Sunrise client to address manual faxing inefficiencies and errors with Sunrise Health Record. This new solution integrates faxing directly into Sunrise’s health information management (HIM) deficiency workflow, allowing users to send deficiency notices without switching systems. It also provides automated inbound fax routing, one-click outbound faxing, and real-time fax tracking to enhance critical communication, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
“We’re proud to continue supporting HFSC as this renewal paves the way for collaboration and innovation in the coming decade,” said Jay Adams, Executive Vice President for Sunrise at Altera Digital Health. “Sunrise 25.1 and new tools like Sunrise Health Record enable our clients to stay ahead in healthcare’s evolving landscape while maintaining essential operations that fuel growth and long-term stability.”
