Indiana HIE Partners with DataMotion to Deliver Secure Health Information

secure health information

Operational excellence, rapid deployment and immediate scalability for high volume message transactions solidifies the new partnership.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – April 08, 2015 DataMotion, an experienced email encryption and health information service provider (HISP), today announced that the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), the nation’s largest health information exchange, has deployed the company’s Direct Secure Messaging solution to facilitate high-volume, secure delivery of protected health information (PHI). The solution will bring universal interoperability and HIPAA-compliant security to IHIE’s electronic delivery service.

IHIE facilitates the Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC), the nation’s largest inter-organizational Clinical Data Repository. Founded in 2004, IHIE is trusted and relied upon to securely steward Protected Health Information (PHI) for more than 25,000 physicians, 106 hospitals, 110 clinics and surgery centers and other healthcare organizations across 17 states.

Through their DOCS4DOCS® Service, IHIE completes clinical results transmissions from the sender to the intended recipient, delivered in the manner most preferred by the recipient. The INPC handles more than 1 million secure health transactions daily and safeguards 3 billion pieces of clinical data to support care for an area with a population of about 6 million. Many of these transactions require an accredited HISP and the Direct Secure Messaging protocol to deliver the information.

Earlier this year, IHIE’s existing HISP expressed an inability to provide ongoing support for the exchange’s high-volume Direct messaging transactions. In a bind, IHIE scanned the accredited HISP landscape for a replacement service provider that could seamlessly interoperate with their subscribers’ EHR systems – including Epic, McKesson, MEDITECH and Allscripts – one that could immediately step in, connect to the network and providers, and start handling millions of transactions. DataMotion was selected for its ability to integrate with a wide range of EHR solutions without disruption, scale to accommodate future growth, as well as meet an aggressive deployment timeline of just four weeks.

“When our existing HISP notified us they were unable to continue their Direct service to us, we needed to move decisively to support our contractual commitments to our subscribers,” said Keith W. Kelley, vice president, service delivery at the Indiana Health Information Exchange. “DataMotion projected confidence to meet our needs with a proven industry track record, broad EHR interoperability, ability to scale and operational excellence with rapid deployment schedules. They projected four weeks to have us fully up and running, and then completed delivery in just two – half the time they originally quoted. They have taken the pressure off a very tenuous situation, so obviously we are very pleased with our decision – they make a natural technology partner for IHIE.”

IHIE will be using DataMotion™ Direct service, the Direct Community Web Portal and DataMotion™ SecureMail Gateway to enable them to execute their mission of high-volume, protected message delivery, regardless of their subscribers’ system of choice. DataMotion solutions interoperate with 50 top EHRs. DataMotion’s cloud-hosted delivery provides vast scalability, as well as rapid onboarding and deployments. DataMotion Direct supports a range of interfaces including XDR, and allows IHIE to deliver the information to recipients in the manner that best suits their needs, whether it is via Direct, a web portal or even fax.

“Bringing a project of this magnitude from start to production in just two weeks required a well-coordinated effort between IHIE and DataMotion,” said Bob Janacek, co-founder and chief technology officer of DataMotion. “In addition, it showcases the scalability and interoperability of our Direct platform, and the real-world experience of our operations, support and project management teams.”

The DataMotion healthcare team will be attending HIMSS 2015, taking place in Chicago, April 12 – 16. To schedule a meeting, please send a request to sales@datamotion.com.
