Jul 01 : VMware (VMW) is expanding Vertical Solutions

healthcare

With the recent release of Horizon 6, VMware revealed details on its latest series of solutions for key vertical markets, including education, manufacturing, and the federal government.

VMware (VMW) is expanding its already sizable portfolio of validated desktop solutions for vertical industries with a bevvy of new services aimed at driving business challenges in the education, finance, healthcare and government sectors. Each new solution is being tailored to meet specific challenges for users within each market by utilizing the VMware Horizon platform, according to the company.

“VMware’s Federal Secure Desktop solution for the Federal Government is just one example of how our broad portfolio of vertical solutions can help organizations achieve their mandate efficiently and securely,” said Erik Frieberg, vice president of Product Marketing, End-User Computing at VMware, in a statement. “By working closely with customers across industries, we understand the various IT challenges they encounter every day, and can accelerate their desktop modernization initiatives using our tested and validated solutions.”

For its education market customers, VMware is rolling out its Secure Online Testing Solution, which will allow school districts to deliver state-mandated online testing that complies with the Common Core State Standards Initiative with minimal IT resources and disruption, according to press release. VMware has already achieved qualification from Pearson TestNav for the solution and is working on obtaining certification with the American Institutes for Research to securely deliver their online test systems.

For federal government users, VMware is debuting an updated Federal Secure Desktop solution to allow agencies to comply with the Federal Telework initiative and meet the data security demands for high-level agencies. Included in the solution are VMware’s new cybersecurity components such as SIPRNet token integration, CAC and PIV card support, and multi-level security for adjustable data protection.

Financial Services sector customers now have access to VMware’s AlwaysOn Financial Workplace solution, which allows financial services organizations to provide high availability of their critical systems and business continuity for disaster planning, according to the company. With the new solution, admins in the financial services vertical will be able to enable a more efficient mobile workforce while complying with changing data privacy regulations for their clients in case devices are lost or stolen.

In the healthcare vertical, VMware is now offering Care Systems Analytics, which monitors the performance of a user’s entire electronic medical record (EMR) clinical system environment to help maximize the EMR investment. Paired with the VMware AlwaysOn Point of Care clinical desktop, VMware Care Systems Analytics is aimed at helping healthcare organizations to improve their clinical workflow and patient outcomes by giving IT admins alerts for any potential system issues.

And last but not least, the VMware High Performance Desktop with 3D solution is designed for the manufacturing vertical to help deliver workstation-level performance with secure collaboration capabilities, according to VMware.  With the solution, designers and developers in geographically dispersed locations can get the performance needed to construct 3D models and designs while protecting information within the data center.

All of the new vertical market solutions are available now, with more information available for individual software on the VMware Vertical Solutions product page. Just last week, VMware announced that Horizon 6 is now available to the public after first revealing the platform in April.
