Jul 07 : Health Language Selected by Holy Name Medical Center

dod and va chart course

Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Holy Name Medical Center (HNMC) has selected Health Language(R) to improve problem and diagnosis searches within its electronic health record (EHR). HNMC will use the Health Language Workflow-Enhancing Search solution to support encoding its problem lists in SNOMED-CT(R) for Stage 2 Meaningful Use and the transition to ICD-10.

Health Language software, content, and consulting solutions map, translate, update and manage standard and enhanced clinical terminologies on an enterprise scale — enabling the information liquidity required to support healthcare’s toughest challenges, such as Meaningful Use, ICD-10, population health, analytics, ACOs, and semantic interoperability among systems.

“Clinician productivity and satisfaction are key goals for our organization and with the requirements for Meaningful Use and ICD-10 next year, the burden on clinicians is greater than ever to stay productive while also maintaining compliance,” said Michael Skvarenina, Chief Information Officer/Assistant Vice President, Information Technology, Holy Name Medical Center. “Health Language solutions will enable our clinicians to search using familiar terms they use on a daily basis, automatically mapping these terms to the correct SNOMED code behind the scenes, as well as identifying the appropriate diagnosis code in ICD-9 and ICD-10.”

HNMC is a fully accredited, not-for-profit healthcare facility based in Teaneck, NJ, with off-site locations throughout Bergen County. Founded and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 1925, the comprehensive 361-bed medical center has more than 900 physicians on its medical staff, and offers leading-edge medical practice and technology administered in an environment rooted in a tradition of compassion and respect for every patient. HNMC provides high quality healthcare across a continuum that encompasses education, prevention, early intervention, comprehensive treatment options, rehabilitation and wellness maintenance — from conception through end-of-life.

“Creating SNOMED CT-compliant problem lists and accurately identifying ICD-10 diagnosis codes can be difficult and time consuming. We think the best way to address that challenge is to provide software and content that ensure clinical information such as problems, procedures and diagnoses are efficiently and accurately documented and automatically mapped to standards,” said Brian McDonald, Vice President, Health Language, Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “We are pleased that HNMC has chosen Health Language to address this growing challenge in the market.”
