Jul 14 : Internal IT burden reduced at Carrus Hospitals with EHR

The Physician Documentation application was developed with direct input from physicians and focused on workflow alignment

USA: MEDHOST, Inc., a provider of market-leading enterprise, departmental and healthcare engagement solutions, announced that Carrus Hospitals has selected MEDHOST’s integrated clinical and financial solutions for its enterprise needs. Carrus leadership has also chosen to host these solutions through MEDHOST Direct, a secure, HIPAA-compliant IT environment.

Carrus Hospitals, in Sherman, Texas, about an hour north of Dallas, is comprised of a 16-bed long-term acute care (LTAC) specialty hospital and a 24-bed rehabilitation hospital. Carrus, which opened in 2010, chose MEDHOST because its clinical and financial solutions are fully integrated, and hospital leadership saw that the comprehensive and intuitive system would play a key role in helping streamline operations as the hospital transitions from paper to electronic records, as per the announcement.

It is added that Carrus was particularly attracted to the MEDHOST inpatient electronic health record (EHR). Its Physician Documentation application was developed with direct input from physicians and aligns with existing clinical workflows, which leads to high adoption by physicians.

“With a clinical background in nursing, I personally understood the importance of selecting an interactive, intuitive solution that fits within normal workflow without becoming a hindrance to care,” said Jon Rains, chief executive officer of Carrus Hospitals. “Having previously leveraged the MEDHOST solution, I knew the robust EHR fit our needs and would help us enhance the care we provide by reducing duplicate data entry and allowing all care teams to access patient data in real time.”

To reduce upfront capital costs, Carrus opted to have the MEDHOST EHR and Physician Documentation application remotely hosted and managed through MEDHOST Direct, a comprehensive, hosted IT environment.

As claimed, MEDHOST Direct will also streamline implementation with software updates and maintenance provided, especially beneficial for IT staff who can now shift their focus from day-to-day system management to patient service and clinician support.

“As we reviewed and evaluated solutions, we saw great value in MEDHOST Direct because we will be able to reduce the burden on our internal IT staff and maintain access to patient records in the event of a natural disaster or emergency,” said Rains. “We have a reputation of providing excellent care, as our hospital tracks higher than the regional and national averages in rehabilitation goals, and our long-term, acute care goals are also ranked higher than the average. Leveraging the MEDHOST EHR will play a strategic role in helping us maintain this level of care and as we continually strive to enhance how we care for patients.”
