Mid Coast Health Registers Patients in Seconds, No Duplicates, Improves Safety and Reduces Fraud with LifeMed ID

LifeMed ID announces the implementation of the patient identity solution at Mid Coast Health Services in Brunswick, Maine. LifeMed ID brings innovation by automating patient access operations and streamlining the registration process. Additional benefits includes eliminating the creation of duplicate records and significantly reducing the occurrence of fraud throughout the care continuum.

Mid Coast Health Services recognizes the importance of patient safety; accurate patient information is critical in meeting that goal. LifeMed ID products reduces manual data entry by over 90% ultimately decreasing the introduction of errors into the EMR and providing increased operational efficiencies resulting in fewer billing errors and enhanced patient experience during the registration process. LifeMed ID’s unique technology connects the right patient to the right record every time.

“The economic value is very positive; registration time was cut from 4 minutes to 1 minute. We are issuing an average of 500 smart cards daily significantly diminishing the amount of time needed by our people to enter, update, and cleanse patient information. We also know the last time the patient information was updated, when they were seen, and the last time their insurance was checked. For Medicare patients, insurance information can change weekly. The system provides the patient’s insurance eligibility along with co-pay. By having patient information upfront and the ability to connect patients with the right record, the billing downstream is accurate. It is all about the patient, patient satisfaction, and patient safety,” said Gale Stoy, IT Director of Mid Coast Health Services.

Mid Coast Health Services is comprised of a 92-bed hospital and 20 clinics with specialty and ancillary care facilities which use different EMR systems. Keeping the most updated and accurate patient information in every location proved to be a significant challenge. With the LifeMed ID cloud services and smart card token, the most current information is readily available whenever a patient presents themselves within the Mid Coast healthcare network. With the LifeMed ID SecureLink interfaces, patient access personnel no longer has to toggle between multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

“LifeMed ID is the foundation for the integration of disparate health IT systems and clinics. It is the front-end where the demographic information is housed and centralized. We are able to register and integrate into CPSI and HIS systems from LifeMed ID without having to go back to change the information once submitted into the environment. The integration allowed the demographic information to be maintained by the hospital. Any CPSI hospital that has financial classes and admission codes can very easily drop down into LifeMed ID’s administration tables and be off and running with minimal amount of training,” said John Stoy, CIO of Mid Coast Health Services.

“The Mid Coast implementation exemplifies how innovative thinking can improve patient safety, reduce operating costs, and lower risk to both the patient and the healthcare provider. The LifeMed ID technology provides operational efficiencies in the front end authentication of patient identity by automating patient access workflow and providing bidirectional integration with CPSI and other HIS systems,” said David Batchelor, CEO of LifeMed ID.
