Doctors Embracing Changing Technologies, And Technology Brings Options to Treatment

Article in Detailed

As more doctors are becoming comfortable using new technologies, software and mobile apps are now being developed specifically to aide the modern physician. Ace Innovation Group has launched a new mobile app called Co-pay Discount for iPhone and Android phones.

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control has found that nearly 80 percent of doctors in the U.S. have upgraded to electronic health records, nearly a tenth within the previous year.

Doctors appear to be embracing more digital options. Online healthcare networks now openly interact with doctors in real time, linking them to past patient histories, the latest published studies, or even allowing for a digital consultation with another physician.

A report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation last year found a similar trend among hospitals. They found that the number of hospitals that switched to digital record keeping tripled between 2012 and 2014.

As more doctors are becoming comfortable using new technologies, software and mobile apps are now being developed specifically to aide the modern physician.

The mobile app Co-Pay was developed by Dr. Sandeep Grewal, M.D., to allow doctors quick access to prescription discount options while they are consulting with patients. The Co-Pay database includes more than 1600 medications, discounted directly by the pharmaceutical firms.

Accessing these discounts can allow physicians to directly impact the healthcare costs incurred by their own patients. These are discounts that are frequently overlooked or unknown to the consumer.

“Now, physicians can check to see which medications will be available to their patients thanks to knowing about the discounts,” said Dr. Grewal. “This can save the patient a huge amount of money.”

The app is available on both the Android and iPhone platforms. One doctor interviewed by HealthDay.com applauded how doctors are now able to transition toward the future.

“Medicine is entering the 21st century at long last,” said Dr. David Blumenthal, M.D. and president of the Commonwealth Fund. “We are on the way toward the information age in medicine.”
