HIMSS Analytics Honors 18 MetroHealth Clinics With Stage 7 Ambulatory Award The HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Ambulatory Award honors ambulatory facilities operating in a paperless environment and representing best practices in implementing EHR

HIMSS Analytics recognized 18 MetroHealth clinics in Cleveland, Ohio, with its Stage 7 Ambulatory Award. The award representsThe MetroHealth’s attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model™ (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.

Developed in 2011, the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database. Stage 7 represents the highest level of EMR adoption and indicates a health system’s advanced electronic patient record environment.

During the first quarter of 2014, only 4.54 percent of the more than 24,000 U.S. ambulatory clinics in the HIMSS Analytics® Database received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

“We are proud to lead the way toward high-quality, patient-centered and technology-enabled care,” said Dr. David Kaelber, MD, PhD, MPH, CMIO at MetroHealth. “This recognition acknowledges MetroHealth’s leadership and commitment to pushing the use of EHRs for the benefit of our patients, our healthcare system, and all of northeast Ohio.”

MetroHealth is a public health system committed to providing health care to everyone in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and improving the health of the community overall. Its 6,000 employees deliver care to everyone at its main campus, just west of downtown Cleveland, and at 16 community health centers. MetroHealth is home to Cuyahoga County’s only Adult Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Burn Care Center.

“MetroHealth has a strong culture of leveraging their EHR to improve clinical and business operations, and staff are encouraged to perform at their highest levels of skill, certification and license,” said John Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS, vice president, strategic relations, HIMSS. “MetroHealth has implemented an automated patient notification system to report incidental findings from test results. For example, if imaging from a trauma case reveals a finding unrelated to the trauma, an automated notification is triggered so that the patient and provider can follow up. MetroHealth has increased patient notification of incidental findings from 36 percent to 100 percent. They have also reduced follow-up time for incidental findings by 68 days.”
