Irvine, CA – April 27, 2015 – Kareo, the leading provider of cloud-based software and services for independent medical practices, today announced the addition of several key ICD-10 enhancements to its product suite, including an ICD-10 Success Dashboard, encounter validation and dual ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding. These enhancements round out the company’s comprehensive program designed to help medical practices make a smooth transition to ICD-10 scheduled for October 1, 2015.

“With ICD-10 now a certainty for this year, Kareo remains fully committed to providing resources and solutions that make the practice’s transition to ICD-10 successful,” said David Mitzenmacher, Kareo’s VP of Customer Success. “In addition to ICD-10 product enhancements and training resources, we are continually working with key payers and partners to test our solution across all scenarios. We encourage practices to being training their staff in ICD-10 coding and clinical documentation improvement as soon as possible.”

The company’s ICD-10 support is available free of charge and is designed to fully prepare its small practice customers to make an on-time and seamless transition to ICD-10. It includes tools provided in Kareo Practice Management and Kareo EHR to map top codes, document test encounters and track their progress toward October 1. Also included is a wide range of educational materials for practices, such as the ICD-10 Success Plan Checklist, ICD-10 Small Practice Guide, an ICD-10 Practice Readiness Assessment and ICD-10 e-books customized for key specialties.

The new additions to Kareo’s ICD-10 100% Success Plan will be automatically deployed to Kareo’s cloud-based solutions and include:

  • The “My ICD-10 Success Dashboard”, providing Kareo customers with an interactive tool for tracking and scoring actual progress, helps practice managers determine who among their users has completed training or various other preparation efforts. This dashboard will support ICD-10 readiness before and after the October 1 implementation date.
  • Encounter Validation, guiding users to convert encounters on a per claim basis from ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes, building on Kareo’s previously released coding crosswalk.
  • Dual ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding in Kareo EHR, supporting the long-term coding of on-going patient problems in notes that will benefit the practice beyond the transition.

Practices must begin immediately to ensure that they have adequate time to update technology, ensure financial security through the transition, complete code mapping and documentation improvement, train staff, and complete end-to-end claims testing. Kareo is fully ready to partner with small practices as they complete this process.

Practices using Kareo will be guided to send the appropriate format to payers, reducing unnecessary rejections and rework. For practices that are nervous about meeting the October 1 deadline successfully, Kareo offers full service billing options that help providers keep up with the latest compliance requirements, ensure clean claims, and increase practice revenue.

For additional training, webinars, and more information regarding Kareo’s ICD-10 readiness, please visit the company’s ICD-10 Resource Center.
