Healthcare Hospitals

Brookwood Medical Center

In 1973, Brookwood Medical Center was founded by a group of physicians who wanted to offer our community exceptional healthcare with high standards for quality and service. Almost 40 years later, that same commitment remains today. From building Alabama’s first women’s hospital and achieving numerous quality distinctions and awards for our care to offering technology and programs that help improve the lives of our patients, we consistently strive to set the standard for our healthcare community.

Brookwood Medical Center is a 631-bed full service medical facility. More than 900 privately practicing physicians treat and refer patients to Brookwood. Over 200 physicians practice in offices located in one of the four professional office buildings connected to the hospital. In addition to our physicians, we have a workforce of over 2,500 employees and volunteer staff that support the medical center. Brookwood is accredited by The Joint Commission and is licensed by the Alabama State Department of Health.

In 2015, Baptist Health System and Brookwood Medical Center came together to form a new community of care: Brookwood Baptist Health. United in service and devotion to the people of Central Alabama, Brookwood Baptist Health was founded on our mutual dedication to high-quality, compassionate care for the communities we have served since 1922.

With five hospitals, dozens of specialty centers, and the largest primary care network in the state, Brookwood Baptist Health has convenient locations all across Central Alabama, including Brookwood Baptist Medical Center and Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, and Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega.

Across the entire statewide system, Brookwood Baptist Health has more than 1,700 patient beds, includes more than 70 primary and specialty care clinics, approximately 1,500 affiliated physicians, and more than 8,500 employees overall, with convenient locations across Central Alabama.

When it comes to your health or the health of a loved one, selecting the right hospital is crucial to a fast and full recovery. While it’s easy to simply go to the nearest hospital, we strive to serve and develop meaningful relationships with the people in our communities to earn their trust. Our purpose is to fully commit ourselves to improving the lives of our patients and the communities we serve. As these relationships continue, so does our knowledge of how best to care for the health of our communities. Our hope is to become your mentor and companion on a life long journey of outstanding health.
