WASHINGTON
Healthcare Hospitals

Emory Adventist Hospital

The hospital was founded in the early 1970’s when a group of physicians recognized a need for a hospital in Smyrna. On June 3, 1974, the hospital (then known as Smyrna Hospital) admitted its first patient. Adventist Health System purchased the hospital in 1976, and it became the first health care institution in the Atlanta area to be affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Adventist Health System owns and manages hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, health care systems and an array of other services.  With 37 hospitals located across the United States, Adventist Health System is the largest not-for-profit Protestant hospital system in the country.

Emory Healthcare has established a reputation as a leader in cutting-edge research and technology.  As the largest, most comprehensive health care system in Georgia, Emory Healthcare has 1,184 licensed patient beds, 9,000 employees and more than 20 health centers located throughout Metro Atlanta.

Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna is licensed as a 100-bed, non-for-profit facility operated by Adventist Health System (AHS) as a joint venture with Emory Healthcare. Through the 1995 joint venture, Emory-Adventist Hospital became the first hospital in Atlanta to be co-owned by two leading health care providers — AHS and Emory.
