Healthcare Hospitals

Emory Saint Joseph’s hospital

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880, Saint Joseph’s facility is Atlanta’s oldest hospital. Today, the 410-bed, acute-care facility is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast.

Saint Joseph’s Hospital is a leader among Georgia health-care providers, respected for its expertise, innovation in health-care delivery and quality of care. While discussions of health frequently focus on competition and managed costs, Saint Joseph’s has not lost sight of the people behind the numbers or its mission to serve those most in need. A commitment to the community is deeply rooted in its history.

As a leader in cardiac, neurologic, vascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory, orthopaedic and cancer care, among others, Saint Joseph’s offers its patients the latest procedures and treatments by providing its medical staff, comprised of more than 750 physicians, with research services and the most advanced technology available.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta’s longest-serving hospital. Today, the 410-bed, acute-care facility is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast. Emory Saint Joseph’s is a leader among all Georgia hospitals and is part of the Emory Healthcare system.

At Emory Healthcare, we strive to deliver quality care, excellent service, and transparency. Star ratings are displayed on the profiles of Emory Healthcare providers, allowing patients to access patient experience information. The below rating represents an overall average of experience results from patients who have received care at this specific facility location.

Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta’s longest-serving hospital, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880. Four sisters, with just 50 cents between them, opened the Atlanta Hospital — the city’s first after the Civil War.

What started in a small house on Baker Street is now a 32-acre campus in north Atlanta. It was renamed Saint Joseph’s Hospital in the 1970s. Our mission is the same today as it was over 130 years ago — to provide compassionate care, especially to those in need.
