Federation Employment & Guidance Service

Born out of the Great Depression, Federation Employment Service (FES) was founded in 1934 by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies (now UJA-Federation of New York), to find employment for tens of thousands of unemployed men and women in the Jewish and broader New York community and to fight workplace discrimination. Following World War II, our name was changed to Federation Employment & Guidance Service (FEGS), reflecting the agency’s significant career work with returning veterans, individuals with disabilities, older adults, and many others.

FEGS operates over 350 locations throughout metropolitan New York, with a highly skilled staff of approximately 4,000 professionals and enhanced by a volunteer network of over 4,000. The organization’s significant infrastructure resources include a number of subsidiary corporations in the areas of Information Technology, Human Resources, Health Care Management, Residential, and Home Care services. These resources enhance the organization’s accountability to government, foundations, and donors.
