Great Plains Health

Great Plains Health is a progressive health system located in North Platte serving a 17-county region of Nebraska, northern Kansas and southern South Dakota.

With 90 physicians representing nearly 30 medical specialties, the Great Plains Health system offers advanced health care, including heart and vascular, cancer and orthopedic surgery services. Great Plains Health features a level III trauma center with all of its emergency room physicians board certified and residency trained in emergency medicine. We have approximately 940 employees and 130 volunteers. Our primary and secondary service area spans approximately 16,000 square miles and 120,000 people.

Great Plains Health is the only hospital in Nebraska to receive an A rating for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in its fall 2013 surveys. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and is home to an American College of Surgeons accredited cancer center and level 2 bariatric surgery program.

Great Plains Health (GPHealth) is driven by a dedicated commitment to our journey from good to great in continual pursuit of excellence in the areas of people, quality, service, growth and finance. To the people of Great Plains Health, excellence is not a destination, but an ongoing journey to get better at what we do every day and in every way. Our journey is intentional, measurable and innovative, as we seek to deliver the very best care possible to the people we serve. We are led by the guiding principles set forth by our board of directors in our three-year strategic plan

As part of the Affordable Care Act, tax-exempt hospitals are required to complete a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) once every three years. In 2016 and 2019, a comprehensive, six-step community health needs assessment (“CHNA”) was conducted for Great Plains Health by Community Hospital Consulting. This CHNA includes relevant demographic and health data as well as stakeholder input surrounding the study area, which is defined as Lincoln County, Nebraska.
